Hello People,

I'm experiencing a Trados Issue, when I try to process a word document file.
I have some experience and knowleadge with Trados Studio, but this kind of issue I've had never seen before.

The most of the content from document word is well process, except the strings that contains "bookmark". I mean bookmark:

"A bookmark identifies a location or a selection of text that you name and identify for future reference. For example, you might use a bookmark to identify text that you want to revise at a later time. Instead of scrolling through the document to locate the text, you can go to it by using the Bookmark dialog box."

The strings that are bookmarks are processed as placeholders/tags in Trados Studio, what they are not well processed, since they should be considered and processed as normal text, I mean translatable text.

If you need to understand a bit more you can see below screenshots for your reference.

1) Below image shows you the "bookmark" text in the word document (in bold within quotes""):

I'm using Trados Studio 2015. I already checked the filters settings but I didn´t figure out how to solve this.

Hello People,

I'm here to ask if anyone know about an issue I'm experiencing with SDL Trados Studio at the moment of processing an IDML file.
The problem is that Trados Studio doesn't process the file well, since there are a lot of content missing, more than a half of the file.

The curious thing is that if you process the same IDML in Memsource that tool process the file in good shape, and if you convert the IDML to INX file and process the INX file in Trados Studio it is processed well too. So the problem is the IDML filter in Trados Studio.

I've already changed all the filter settings and trying with all.

I'm using Trados Studio 2015 (I also tried in 2011, 2014) and the issue happens too.

Finally I tried to set the filter in that way (as shows below screenshot)

But there is no way, I was NOT able to process the IDML without miss content.

If you know something about the issue that information would be useful for me.

Hi everyone, i have a little doubt over here.

A client sent to me a bilingual excel file to review the translation made. The problem i have is that it is a bilingual file with several columns for each language and when i try to open it in Trados all the text appear on the source column.

I have tried to change to CSV but nothing changes. Im using Trados 2014 because the job requires it.

What can i do? any suggestions?

...that a bilingual Excel file should be reviewed directly in Excel. If the client would like you to do the job in Studio they would send you the sdlxliff file, and not xls.

I received the login details for a GroupShare project that I connect to through my Studio 2015, but in the final step when I click to open the project from GroupShare I get a red cross and it says "Failed to open server project." I had marked the checkbox for "The server requires a secure connection (SSL)" according to my PM's instructions.

Could it be that either my firewall or my Microsoft Security Essentials blocks access? But it worked to establish the connection, didn't get any error message after I had entered the SSL URL and my user credentials and chosen the GroupShare project. When I check server availability I get a green checkmark for the connection.

I think GroupShare uses MS SharePoint.

My computer is a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Browser is Google Chrome but I have automatic opening of Internet Explorer set.

Port 443 is set to be used.

I use Trados Studio 2014. I am no expert but it does what I need it to do. Recently, I started working for a company called Yamagata who are very particular about which type of quotation marks are used in their files. Once you've translated the files, you have to use QAD to check them and the 'wrong' quotation marks are highlighted and have to be corrected before the file is sent back to the agency. They insist on the use of unicode quotation marks 201C (opening) and 201D (closing) in EN files so my question is: how can I set Trados Studio to use these quotation marks as standard so that I can avoid having to change them all within QAD once my files are completed?
Any advice would be appreciated.

…any way to set autoreplacement rules for quotation marks, this feature was introduced only in Studio 2015.

You can use [url= [url removed] ]Ilya Birman’s typography layout[/url] to type them into your texts manually using AltGr+< and AltGr+>.

Hi Sue,

As you are saying this is intermittent I would be inclined to think this is either a firewall (port) and or antivirus issue or it could be an intermittent problem from your clients side.
Only recently a number of AV providers release a new patch which quarantined as a false negative an important file.
I think what would help is if you can document everything the next time it happens (screen shots) and then send them to me (along with the log files).
This should help get to the bottom of this once we can see the whole error.

Hi everybody,

I have a deadline here in a couple of hours and the PM's office is closed for the day so I can't ask her.

I have a complex project that I just got back with the QA report and updated files. I am supposed to make
changes and update the new version of the files and TM - but I can't figure out how to do it. The project is not sent as a Package, but as Folders: da-DK, en-US, Packages, Reports, TM as well as a Trados Studio Project file.

I assume I am supposed to open the Studio file - but when I do, Trados just says that project has already been opened and added to the list of projects - and won't import the updated version of these files/TM.

What do I do? Do I delete the existing project or???

Sure hope someone can help!

Hello KLarg,

These are cross-references so Studio displays them as non-translatable tags. Later on in the document you get them as a translatable segment (e.g., when you encounter a section name to which these cross-references refer). Example is your segment 201 for the second cross-reference. After translating this segment and generating the final document, all cross-references referring to it should be updated with translated text. That's why SDL Trados Studio shows source text in these tags.

If you want, you can easily test this by importing a copy of the document and pretranslating it with pseudo-translation. After that find "Assigning a Setup options..." in the translation editor and translate with some specific text. You should then be able to generate the final copy and check whether the cross-reference was updated with your translation.

Hi everyone,

This problem is alive and well.

I'm using Studio 2014 sp2 on Windows 7.

The problem goes like this:

I enter new terms from the studio editor using the quick add new term command.

They appear just fine until I save and close studio. Once I do so, however, about 20% of the time all of the terms I added up to a certain point in time are gone. For example, I worked 9:30 to 19:00 and only the terms before 10:34 were saved.

It was on a network drive so I'll try keeping it on my local disk. I'm also going to try periodically using the reorganize function in termbase.

I'm honestly shocked at how buggy and poor quality trados is considering how much they are charging for it. My company foots the bill and not me but I feel like billing SDL for the hours of my time their software wasted.

Hi Tyler,
I found a partial solution for this:
I don't add terms from the studio interface, but I insert the terms directly in multiterm.
I've been using this approach for some months and no terms have disappeared so far.
I think this is the only solution, because Trados isn't a reliable software.
Also during translation, I press the save button many times because I know that this software frequently crashes and loses the work done.

I'm using Studio 2015 with a new install of Win10. Every time I create a package in Studio, the Outlook wizard launches.

I use SDL Trados Studio 2015, my client has SDL Trados Studio 2014.

I send them both the SDLXLIFF file and the target file (the format is usually Word or PowerPoint). They make changes to the SDLXLIFF but, once they try to 'save target as', they just can't. How is this possible? It's happening more and more often and I don't know what I should do.

Could it be that the source files were generated with Office 2016? Studio 2014 doesn't work with Office 2016.

I had some issues when I switched to Office 2016 and suddenly couldn't work with Studio 2014 anymore, so I ended up upgrading to 2015... maybe you're having the same issue, but the other way around?

Where can I see the Office version used to create the source files?
Besides, I've unflagged 'Word 2007-2016' from file types, just to be on the safe side. It must be something else...

Hi there,

I have a lot of this in my target:

620x260x440mm (24.4 x10.2x17.3in)

Some have no space others have U00A0, U2000 or what so ever following the numbers. I would like to replace all instances of number + unit/x with number+U202F+unit/x.

So I press Ctrl+H and I enter the following expression into the find field:

( ? < = \\ d ) \\ p {Zs}* ( ? = [xmi] )

I check the case sensitive and regex boxes and find nicely all I want.

Now the promblem: I cannot replace it with my U202F or with anything else. Whenever there is a regex in the find field, the replace field seems not to work anymore.

Ideas anybody?
I use Studio 2015 Freelance and the source is a docx, that I got as a package.

Framemaker 7 MIF in Studio 2015

Dear all,
This is going back a bit, but a customer has just hit me with some Framemaker 7 MIF files.
I altered the header to trick Studio into thinking they're Framemaker 8 files, and then imported them.
Unfortunately, characters like speech marks and umlauts are converted into wierd codes.
Does anybody know how to import MIFs (which appear OK in a text editor) into Studio 2015 without losing the special characters?
