And it is not a problem with the sdlxliff file. I opened the sdlxliff file in UltraEdit and parsed it - everything well formed. It is the target file writing problem.

Dear colleagues,

Is there anybody who can help me with the following:

I´ve been using Trados for quite some time now, and it works fine. Last week I wanted to re-organize my translation memories and I found out that all my translation memories contain only the sentences of the first translation I started them with. In spite of having clicked on activate and update when opening a new document in Trados, the TM was never updated. Or so it seems, because:
While doing the translation in the editor-window, the memorized segments appear in case of the original text matching them. Which means, they appear,but in TM-view I don´t see them. So I guess, the segments are stored somewhere elst.

Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem?

I haven't used TM view much, but I think you can filter the content in different ways, so you could search for your last keywords. Hope i'm right.

Dear All,

I have Trados Studio 2014 on Window 10. In a project I have just received, when I am typing in a segment, the cursor jumps back a few postions and just stays put there. I can reposition it with the mouse, or sometimes by just pressing the back key, but then it gets stuck again, and when I delete characters that come after it, it refuses to delete the final one, making a "pinging" alert, as if there were some hidden tag there or something.

It's a big project, divided among several translators, and the client says that nobody else is having this problem, but it only happens with this project.

Any ideas? I have unchecked "hide cursor" in my mouse options, my drivers are up to date and my virus check returns clean. I have even shut down and restarted!

I know it is possible to open more than one file by selecting the files, but if I have those different files in different folders and sub-folders, how can I get the whole text in one single editor file?

Trados expert would be very very welcome. Sigh.

Got an XLIFF file created in Trados 2015 which won't open and I get this error:
'.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 53734, position 59.

I was working on it, saving regularly but yes - my bad - not all the lines were confirmed. But I am sure the data is there in the file.

I'm absolutely sure there is a solution as these websites show but if someone proficient in Trados and used to handling XML could help me quickly sort the file and render it loadable, I would be extremely grateful. (I could send it over)

Hi all,
we are dealing with this trouble and after checking in all the web, we ask for help.

We have a TM EN-ZH. We translated last time some months ago and averything was fine. Source files were XHTML (MadCap Flare files) with tags inside (conditions, variables and so on).

This time, we applied the TM as usual and ALL TAGS are missed!

We did not changed the normal translaion process. We tried to create again the project with a variety of options, but nothig. We create project with two files only but nothing.

Other strange behaviour is this: in the editor we open the TM: the right sentence is there. We click on Apply Tranlsation (Ctrl+T) and the sentence is copied in the file but witout tags.

Any idea? Suggestions?

In order to do that, you need to create your project and keep adding files using the "Add Files" command/button. Then, as you know, in "Files" view, you select the files you want to work on.

If you add your files, by adding entire folders using the "Add Folders" command/button, you cannot open files across folders, since Studio keeps you within one folder at a time. Please read below.

From SDL Trados Studio 2014 Help:
You can add files individually or you can add a folder structure. All of the files in the folder structure are added to the project. The New Project wizard creates a folder for every target language you have selected, and places the prepared *.sdlxliff files and any reference files in the appropriate language folder. If you selected files in a folder structure, this structure will be replicated in the target language folders.

I have Trados Studio 2015. I am having a problem downloading Trados packages from a ftp site. I have been working with the agency in question for over a year, and they leave folders containing the Trados package and support materials on their ftp site. I usually download the folder as a whole by dragging it onto the desktop. A problem has arisen in the past week in that when I attempt to drag or copy the folder to the desktop or another location I receive a message that the process will take several hours (previously it has been several minutes). Of course the process then times out. The problem seems to be related specifically to the Trados package as I can download the other elements (eg powerpoint, pdf or Word files) individually without any difficulty. This problem has occurred only in the last week and occurs with very small documents (eg/ 200 words) so is not related to the document size. I would be grateful for any clarification as to the likely cause of the problem, if it is related to the software, and for advice on how to tackle it.

Hi!

I hope someone would be able to help me with this. As you probably know, there's this wonderful feature in MS Word which allows you to select a text, press "Ctrl+D" and select "All caps."

I'm wondering, is there something similar in Trados 2015?

The reason why I'm asking is because I have a lot of terms and whole segments in my TM that are either in all caps or all lower case, and suddenly, the file I'm translating contains the exact same term or segment, but the other way around. As an example, the result is: source text is all caps, target should be a 100% match but is all lower case.

I'm working on a lot of similar projects, so this happens more than often, and honestly... it's frustrating to have to re-write everything. Of course, after a while, both are in the TM, but there are always new segments and terms with the same problem.

Anyway, do you know if this is something that can be done in Trados? If not, any tricks/suggestions?

Thank you very much for your reply. It actually didn't work as F3 is my shortcut to search the TM, BUT your input made me think of something. I took a look at the shortcuts list and noticed there is one for caps (go figure why I didn't see it before...).

Basically, I just found out in my settings, it's also Shift+F3.

You may not realize this, but right now, your input is saving my life! ;) haha thank you!

A couple days ago, after restarting my computer, I noticed that automated translation in Trados Studio was behaving differently than it had before. I'm currently working on files with a lot of cross repetitions and TM matches. I was also given a reference file for this job with instructions to use as a priority over the TM in the package. The problem is that now, whenever I modify/update a segment, it seems to be sent to the memory but not taken into account for the automated translation. (Excuse me if I'm not explaining this well). For example, if I have "This testing report" in the TM, which I update to "This test report", I confirm the segment and Trados still uses "This testing report" in the rest of the file. When I open another file with similar contents, with automated translation, it again gives me "This testing report", although if I return to the segment manually, it does give me a message saying "different target in the TM". I've tried changing various settings but haven't been able to fix this on my own. It doesn't seem to be project-specific. This happened with my previous job as well, where my translations/edits, which were being sent to the memory, weren't being used for automated translation. Again, this only started happened when I restarted my computer. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Same problem for me today in a review project with a lot of Trackchanges.

Here's another solution in this case. Create a new same project, remove it from the project list of Studio, copy the .sdlxliff file in the target folder of the old project folder to that of the new one, open the this new project again (.sdlproj file) and all changes come back.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find an account or license under your name-
Could you please provide the last 6 digit order number so that I can verify the license version please- as this could have be many reasons you are having issues-
Wrong license version/incompatible version- corrupt link etc.
Could you also provide what OS you are running as well please.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm working away from home this week so don't have all the information at hand. However my OS is Windows 10, and I think the relevant order number is 366295.
I bought Trados Studio 2015 last year, and had to download it again in Jan 2016 as I needed to replace my laptop. I can't quite work out why this problem is intermittent ie it doesn't happen every time.
