Until yesterday Studio worked. This morning I updated my Studio 2019 to the last SR2 and on trying to start Studio I get the message Service "SDL.TranslationStudio.AlignmentEditor.lAlignementEditor Service could not be started". A bug which apparently is an old hat. Fact is that the solutions suggested in Knowledge Base do not work, I cannot repair nor uninstall Studio (neither through Windows Uninstall nor with Revu Uninstaller) as per error message I need the old installer to uninstall the new installation and... well, it's a mess. Who said "I hate Studio"... ? Count me in. If I get it to run again, 2019 will definitely be the last version I bought from SDL.
Anyhow... anyone with a solution to this umpteenth bug? [/quote]

Having read that AV software may cause havoc when installing Studio, this morning I deactivated all Windows 10 AV applications and - oh miracle - I was able to install the update.
[Rant again]: AFAIK nobody at SDL cared to mention that Windows AV might cause problems when installing updates... AND this still doesn't explain why installation worked on my MBP which has the same security settings as my iMac and not on my iMac... go figure.

SO I reveived this deactivation ticket form SDL, but I do not manage to return the license offline after all.

There is Deactivation Ticket, Activatiom date (Deactivation Authorization), Unique Activation ID and Activation state.

Well,I try to follow the SDL instructions. But I only get

"An error has occurred with your offline-deactivation. If you continue to have problems, please contact SDL".

I have no support agreement.

Would not have made so much fuzz about it if it weren't from the fact I have 30.000 word to proofread.....

Thanks!

They don't say "If you have a support agreement". They say "If you continue to have problems". You do.

The "uncleaned" file is generally the file that contains both source and target text, and the "cleaned" file is the file that contains only the translation. Now, while it is possible to generate various files from within Trados that contain both source and target text, only the "SDLXLIFF" file is considered the "uncleaned" file.

On my computer, the SDLXLIFF file's icon looks like this:

The SDLXLIFF file's file name often contains the name of the target file. For example, if the SDXLIFF file is called "myfile.foo.bar.docx.sdlxliff", then the target file (i.e. the "cleaned" file that will be generated) will be called "myfile.foo.bar.docx" (or, if your computer hides file extensions, the SDLXLIFF file will be called myfile.foo.bar.docx with an SDLXLIFF icon, and the cleaned file will be called myfile.foo.bar with a DOCX icon).

To generate target files (i.e. "cleaned" files) in Trados, go to Project view on the left, right-click the project on the right, select Batch Tasks > Generate Target Translations. Or ditto in Files view and right-click the file. Or, if you have the file open in Trados, there should be a button Home > File Actions > Batch Tasks.

The target file will then be generated, usually in the same folder as the SDLXLIFF file. If you have two folders (one with the source language code and one with the target language code), the cleaned and uncleaned files are in the folder with your target language. You can also look at the file modification dates in Windows Explorer to ensure that you have the correct files.

Does WorldServer create an extract of the TM when creating packages?

Does WorldServer automatically create an extract of the TM while creating packages, or is this something the PM configures manually?

I received a WSXZ with only a tiny TM embedded, that's why I'm asking.

I don't know, but I often receive Trados packages (both native and WorldServer) that contain a TM, and then the TM is either empty or contains just one or two short segments that are really not useful for the project (-: like the translation for "Yes" and "No". Do your WSXZ packages typically contain large TMs?

why embedded content tag definition would work in PO but not in XML files | You might need some coding here

Let me see if I get you right. You need to convert/export the content of a .po file to an xml format?
If that is the case, you will need to define your target xml schema following the original .po schema. Then you will need some script to read the entries from the .po file and place each variable under the right xml tag.
I'm afraid I don't know if there is any software that does it automatically. Hopefully the procedure is very simple. If you get on well with coding, you can do it yourself easily with a gettext function.

Paulo,
I believe by right clicking on "Batch Tasks", and then "Finalise", you will be able to have a "clean" version of your file (the original format of the file your client sent to you), as well as your "unclean" file, the file with sdl xliff extension.

The "Finalize" step performs two steps, namely it creates target translations and it updates the main TMs. So, you can use "Finalize" if you want to create target translations, but then you'll also be performing an additional step (update the main TMs). It is perfectly all right to just "Create Target Translations" by itself, without using "Finalize".

(By the way, I find the label "Finalize" to be confusing, because it causes only the main TMs to be updated and not the project TMs. This means that the project TMs will still contain outdated content after you used "Finalize", unless you also use the "Populate project translation memories" step.)

Also please note that you need to have a valid licence for the 2017 or 2019 versions of Studio in your account for this to be available to you. You only seem to have 2011 in your account so it will not work for you even if you do get hold of the plugin.

Paul.

It works basically for any editable text appearing in the screen, no matter what the particular software is, and leaves no traces of having been used. As they say "Select text in any application and simply press Ctrl+C twice to translate it. Adapt the translation as you like; copy it, or paste it directly back into your text; keep working."

I have tried it only for Windows.
