Just coming up on my mind you could amend the existing pair instead of creating a new one. It could go in conflict using a target language already created. I'm not sure actually but it's the only reason I can think about to dolce this problem. Bye Elena

Hello everyone!

When I double-click on Trados packages or SDLXLIFF files to open them, they open a new instance of Trados, but the files themselves don't open. I need to manually open them from within Trados. What could the reason/solution be?
I'm using Windows 10 Home and Trados 2017 (updated). I didn't use to have that problem.

Has anyone else had this problem and how can I fix it?

I'm working with a large editing project where the original translator created a very bad translation and I am now implementing the customer's changes.

The way I work with this project (more than 100,000 words) is that I have all SDLXLIFF files opened (translate multiple files) at the same time (one single glued file, composed of all individual SDLXLIFF files) in SDL Trados Studio 2019, and then I work my way forward comment by comment from the PDF file (I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI). So I select the first comment, locate corresponding place in the SDLXLIFF and implement the change there and finally confirm the change into the memory.

As there are almost 10,000 comments, this task will take over a week to complete, so I was wondering if there is any more effective way to handle this? For instance this:

I first use one of the Adobe Acrobat Pro XI options for the comments list:
Export all to data file
Export to Word
Create comment summary

Then, I write a regex in SDL Trados Studio to implement those changes from the Adobe export all in one go.

Or, I know a programmer that is expert on XML, if I would turn to this programmer and ask him if there is any way to batch change in the target XML files from an Adobe comments export. If I for instance glue all target XML files together and then, using regex, implement the changes from the Adobe export.

I think there could be three options to perform the batch edit:

1. In the bilingual SDLXLIFF files in SDL Trados Studio [url removed]

2. In the SDL Trados Studio translation memory, then update the SDLXLIFF files (pre-translate) from the translation memory.

3. In the monolingual target XML files by help from an XML specialist (I've received excellent help from him before).

A Studio package is a Winzip file with the suffix changed. Hence, the package can be suitably renamed and opened, and its contents brought into play: source file, TMs, etc.

Regarding the remedying of the problem with the package itself, I have no information, but searching the SDL support portal may yield some useful leads.

I'm having the same issue. It improved by recreating the project, upgrading the TM and reordering the termbase, I think the culprit is Multiterm. Upgrade it also.

Good morning,

Last night I submitted a return project file to my client. This morning he has informed me that the SDLPROJ file does not contain the sdlxliff file. I created a separate sdxliff file and sent that to him immediately. I am hoping that he will be able to use just that file. This does not solve the problem of what went wrong with the file.

What could have gone wrong with the return file and how can I check what is in that project before I resend it? I don't think I can open the file as when I click on it SDL opens and tells me that I already have a file of that name. I have tried changing the file name but the same thing happens.

Many thanks for any pointers.

The SDLPROJ file never contains the SDLXLIFF file, as far as I'm aware. The SDLPROJ file is not a package file but a settings file. It contains the settings for the project.

1. If the client initially sent you a forward package (SDLPPX), from which you created the project, you can send back either the target-language SDLXLIFF files or a return package (SDLRPX).
2. If the client initially sent you either SDLXLIFF files or files in the original format, you can send back either the target-language SDLXLIFF files or the final translated files in the original format (or both).
3. At no time should you send the SDLPROJ file.

I think that I had misunderstood. The client had sent the SDLXLIFF file and an SDLPROJ file. So I returned the PROJ file thinking that would have everything in it. I don't think I can create a meaningful return package from the information sent.

Thank you so much for pointing this out. This is the first time that I have had the problem of not being able to create and send an entire complete return package for my client.

It rather looks like the project manager doesn't know Studio well enough since he sent you an sdlxliff and SDLPROJ file, which is rather meaningless. After all the sdlproj file doesn't create the project structure at your end. So the blame is on the side of the PM I think.

He should have created a project package from the Home ribbon in the Projects window and sent you that instead.

Yes, I think you are correct. It was my mistake for not looking at the received files properly. At least I will not make this mistake in the future. I should have looked at the file type and not just the image.

At least I can rest assured that the mistake was not mine.

He either thought that sending the SDLPROJ file would allow you to import some of the project settings that he had in mind for you (it doesn't) or he grabbed it by mistake, or he doesn't quite know how Trados works and thought he'd simply send all "Trados"-like files. As you may know, when you create an SDLXLIFF file from an original source format file without creating a project first, Trados creates an SDLPROJ file along with the SDLXLIFF file automatically, so a new user may be given the impression that that file is important.

I agree with Roy that in order to enable the translator to import specific project settings, the client has to create a forward package, and he can only do that if he has the professional (agency) version of Trados. Alternatively, if he wants you to use certain non-default project settings, he should tell you what those settings are. Unfortunately, as far as I know, Trados does not have a feature whereby the client (or a fellow-translator) can export all non-default settings to a separate settings file for the translator to import on his side.

SDL 2019 changes the font size of the source document, so that I have to select this or that part of a large number of the translated slides to change the font from, say, size 20 back to the original size.

Note this is not consistent: some slides are fine and others are not and the ‘new’ fonts are not always of the same size. My document has 226 slides and I’ve had to put right about 2/3 of the slides I've already translated. A waste of time.

I’d be grateful for any solution. Thank you (and apologies if this has already been discussed).

I suspect you are ignoring or not noticing tags while translating, so that the location of the translated text is different to that of the original text, in terms of tag positioning. Consider the example below to be a typical target segment, with made-up tags:

TT1font-begin Untranslated text in a sentenceTT1font-endTT2font-begin formatted using different fonts.TT2font-end.

If you insert all the translation between the first set of tags, marking the "TT1" font, and delete the remainder of the text, which is between the set of tags marking the "TT2" font, you'll end up with something like this:

TT1font-begin The entire translated sentence is now in here, using only one font.TT1font-endTT2font-beginTT2font-end

Note that there is no text between the "TT2" font tags. When you generate the target document, the fonts (or other formatting) will no longer be identical to those in the source document. Instead of a mixture of the "TT1" and "TT2" fonts, it will be only "TT1", and you will be annoyed that Studio has changed your fonts.

If this is indeed what is happening - and it could be something else entirely - the only solution that I know of is to pay attention to tags in the SDL editor (making them visible) and be careful where you insert text as you translate. This takes more time.

For this reason I tend to avoid projects with lots of formatting tags. If you are working directly from the source document rather than a package you might be able to reduce the number of tags using the utilities in TransTools.

In Project Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs, disable Match Repair, for the Editor.
I've had the same problem as you with Studio 2017 and disabling this option did the trick.

All of a sudden 2 days ago SDL Studio 2015 which I use every day gave me this message when I opened it:
Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagement.IProjectManagementService
I desinstalled it and reinstalled it twice but still have the same problem...
I did find a thread on sdl support but I do not seem to have one of the underlying problems mentioned when I look in the file detail of the error.
Has any else had this lately? I can't understand where it comes from either since I use Studio pretty much every day... I have file a case with SDL but if I can find a quicker solution, that would be amazing.
Here is to hoping I ma not alone....

I have created support with the SDL and hope to see if it works well.

I read somewhere in their technical documents that SDL team is working on a solution, may I will have to reinstall to sort of the situation right now.

The recognition still works as mentioned above - recognized sometimes, not recongnized the other times in 2019 SP2.

Buying trados was the worst choice in my life.
