... but this time both source and target were put in the source segment of the project

Here is how it should appear:

And here is how it looks when I try importing the mqxliff file:

Somehow this time I only got the Norwegian translation in, but in source. I saw one instance where both English and Norwegian were in the source column.

So it seems something is wrong with my copy of Studio. I guess I need to reinstall it somehow.

What you're experiencing is what you might experience in a CAT tool that can't really parse XLIFF but simply assumes that you have an untranslated (pre-translated) file in which the source text is currently in the target fields. I'm surprised that this happens in Trados.

I'm not sure what you mean by "importing" the XLIFF files into Trados. I assume you mean you're just opening them like you would open e.g. a DOCX file, right?

Sometimes I get parts of a segment, where the text should not be bold, but it is and I cannot get it non-bold. Very annoying. Any solution?

It may be due to special fonts used in the source. I guess that, when you reproduce the target, the problem will be gone. Or?

To me import means preparing a file and convert it to an sdlxliff file in Studio. You don't work directly in a Word file in Studio. So I mean import. I have an xlf file and a mqxliff that Studio converts to a proper sdlxliff file. But when it does, target is empty and all text (source and taget) in the original file is lumped together in the source segment in the sdlxliff file that Studio works with.

It very much looks like a software error in my current installation though, so I will try to reinstall Studio to see what happens.

I didn't have any problem so far.

Maybe you can select the relevant section, make it bold (I know it is bold, but still, just give the command) and then try using clear formatting/ctrl+space.

Typical Trados :)

Perhaps you should first import the untranslated mqxliff file into Studio, followed by manually replacing that file by the finally translated mqxliff in the same folder. Open your file again in Studio and you should then see what you expect.

Twice I could resolve this problem by working with the DOC format of Word instead of the DOCX format.
For info, my second file had 155 pages.
Good luck !!!

Hello all,
I'm trying to translate a single document in SDL 2017 as I have done many times before. However am getting an error message "an error has ocurred in the script on this page""The specified URI is not a valid server-based translation memory". Have no idea what this means or how to fix it! Would be grateful for any help,

Unable to launch SDL Trados 2019 after trying to install two apps from the SDL AppStore

Poster: Ivana Kahle

Hello,
yesterday I attended the SDL webinar on apps from the SDL AppStore and decided to install two apps: SearchOnWeb and Web Lookup. I restarted the software after installing the SearchOnWeb app and everything seemed fine. After installing the Web Lookup app I tried to restart the software again, but it wouldn't launch. I got this odd message: "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."
This is what I already did trying to fix it:
1) I deleted the existing copy of SDL Trados Studio (Control panel, Programs, Uninstall a program) and installed it again from the SDL web page - there was no result, the software wouldn't launch.
2) I used the system restore option and restored my system to an earlier point of time (January 23, 2019). My OS is Windows 7, 64 bit. There was no result again.
3) No other software was affected.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks in advance and happy translating,
Ivana.

I did not quite think of that way of doing it. After all when I open a translated sdlxliff file in Dejavu or memoQ, source and target are populated the way I would expect. So why that is not the case when Studio open (imports) an xliff file from Dejavu or memoQ seems strange.

But I will try that way of doing it and see if it doesn't help.

Unir dos segmentos separados en la memoria

Poster: Cristina Ayuso

Cristina

Getting alphabetic order in QA checker 3.0 with EDITPRO | good suggestion, but

Post title: good suggestion, but

yes, I did sort it by description.

changing ID is a good idea. I'll give it a try. I'll first sort description by alphabetic number and then Ill attribute to the first alphabetically sorted element, to the second and so on.

Although I am skeptical because if ID is all that matters, then the platform order should have stayed the same after I had changed the code yesterday (I didn't apply any change to ID). However, the order did not stay the same, but it changed somehow.

I'll give it a try anyway.

Could I ask you if you have a suggestion how to change the IDs non manually?

I could do this in excel, but then I don't know how I could merge all the rows together to include then in xml file (I have 500 elements=500 rows).

thank you

Looking for a how-to video for learning the ropes of SDL Trados Studio Translation Memory Settings

Dear all,

I generally find that YouTube videos, etc., are often an efficient alternative to reading PDF and online manuals.

I would like to learn how to properly and beneficially manage the Translation Memory Settings dialog options in Studio 2017/2019.

Under Fields and Settings, I would like to adeptly make use of the following fields: Name, Type, Picklist and Allow Multiple Values.

Here's why, this can be most helpful when translating and editing those translations in Studio 2019 on two computers as a team when it comes to tasks such as ensuring adherence to customer terminology and customer translation history consistency, adapting existing customer translations in line with customer amendments to the respective source material, making sure that only our newest and thus most accurate, most "polished" translations of a given expression or even paragraph make it to our internal QA phase.

I would like to assign each of our (external, i.e. non-auto-generated) job-specific TMs a Project ID stamp (two-letter country code-customer number-month-year-number of project(s) for customer in month) when setting up the respective Studio project, or, if possible, on occasion also retroactively, and would like to assign a "Translation approved" stamp to each TU edited by the respective proofreader.

Cheers,

Sebastian Witte

In settings/programs & functions [approximate English renderings] try selecting the Studio entry in the table, right click and select Repair. This is a halfway house before outright reinstallation. I have successfully loaded native Xliff files into Studio and haven't experienced the problem you describe. I run Studio 2019 with the recent second update. I hope I'm not conveying coals to Newcastle.

Hello, new to Trados. Excuse me in advance if this is somehow an idiot question, but is there no way of setting up emails and URLs as Recognised Tokens so I can quickly transfer them from ST to TT? I've trawled the internet but found nothing.

Thanks in advance.

... but often the problem goes deeper, so I usually prefer to do a clean installation instead. It doesn't always solve the problem, though, regrettably.

Invidentally, I also had to reinstall DVX3, so there is something strange going on.

Now Studio and Dejavu work as intended it seems, though.
