Hello!

I have quite an infuriating problem with SDL Trados Studio 2017. Whenever I use the alignment tool and scroll through it, it automatically scrolls both columns instead of just one. Because of that I cannot get the alignment I need, not to mention that the double scrolling is REALLY laggy.

Is there any way to disable this annoying "feature"?

Hi all!
I was sent a project package to translate.
This included an AnyTM. On opening the package I was notified "The translation provider 'AnyTM: XYZ.sdltm' couldn't be opened and has been disabled". Though the "enable" checkbox for this TM is not ticked (and the same error message comes up when I do tick it), what seems to be a sub-TM is ticked as enabled. This does not have much in it so I checked with the client.
I was sent the TM separately to attach to the project. This seemed successful and it showed up as enabled in the project settings. Though it is a massive TM, no matches are showing up when I translate the text and concordance is not searching it.
When I disable the 'sub-TM' sent with the package, there is then no TM available to me at all, even though the separate TM I added manually is still ticked as enabled.
I have upgraded this TM and re-indexed it (not sure what that means but thought it worth a try). I'm pretty new to the technical ins and outs of this so forgive me if any of this is self-evident or doesn't make sense!

Does anyone know what I could do to remedy this? Got massive text to translate and not much time...

This may have had something to do with a mismatch of target languages (text set to UK, TM to US). I fiddled around a bit and under the specific language pair (>UK) added the new (>US) TM as a file-based AnyTM rather than simply a file-based TM.. this seems to have worked!

Pathetic, SDL, Pathetic. I've seen the bug in 2011 already, and apparently they haven't done anything about it. I'm SO considering switching to MemoQ permanently.

Found thanks to SDL Community support. Here is the solution that worked for me :

Try resetting MultiTerm. Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart MultiTerm:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTermXX

Dear Mette, I am with you it is terrible! I have found that it probably was due to Multiterm. I resorted the termbank and this seemed to have resolved the problem. But not sure that it was exactly that. As I stopped the crashes by the trick I explain above I moved than on to other projects and perhaps it was just time and new updates from Windows or so which resolved. Nevertheless I found that not all my terms in the termbase was shown or even no terms and after resorting I experienced better working flow and all my terms being show. Could this be a help to you?

It sounds like there might be a problem with the source file, or maybe you just need to quit and start over. Maybe close Trados and open it again first. Hopefully by now you have resolved it?

Thanks for your feedback.
So it was Multiterm that was the sinner... did you set up a new Multiterm base and import the terms into it? I have often experienced that the program lags when I add terms to Multiterm when working in Studio. It is very time consuming and also annoying.

I hope some of you would still be able and willing to answer my question.
I had the same error message when creating a project with 35 excel files (2007). I clicked on the "Ignore" and got an sdlxliff for each excel. So far everything seems OK with them, they open and contain text. I didn't try the export yet though...
Did any of you try this option? If so, with what results?

In QA checker 3.0 regex rules are par default not in alphabetic order, which makes it hard to find and adopt/modify those rules if you have a lot of them. With some other users, we unsuccessfully suggested to SDL the new feature of alphabet order in QA checker.

Because this feature is important to me I am trying to find a solution on my own.

I exported the regex rules in XML file and opened it with editpadpro. I noticed that entries were added in the code in chronological order (first added in the code, first shown in the platform). So my idea was to change the order of those entries in alphabetic order.

I imported the modified code in the QA checker. QA checker recognized the new code that includes entries in alphabetic order. All the entries are shown on the platform, they are no longer in chronological order, but they are not in an alphabetical order neither.

Long story short: codes are now in alphabetical order in the XML file, but SDL is showing them in some random order.

Does anybody know where I did the mistake or what would be a solution?

I guess you sort by the element Description, right?
I haven't tried, so I'm just guessing: Maybe Studio sorts the regexes by RegExRules1, RegExRules2, RegExRules3, so you might need to edit the attribute Id of the element Setting…

yes, I did sort it by description.

changing ID is a good idea. I'll give it a try. I'll first sort description by alphabetic number and then Ill attribute to the first alphabetically sorted element, to the second and so on.

Although I am skeptical because if ID is all that matters, then the platform order should have stayed the same after I had changed the code yesterday (I didn't apply any change to ID). However, the order did not stay the same, but it changed somehow.

I'll give it a try anyway.

Could I ask you if you have a suggestion how to change the IDs non manually?

I could do this in excel, but then I don't know how I could merge all the rows together to include then in xml file (I have 500 elements=500 rows).

Try first changing 3 or 4 items, just a few of them as a test.
If it works, then you can think of implement a full replacement.
How to automate the replacements?

You can automate it in Word using fields (this link may help you to get the idea):

The procedure would be:
- Paste your regexes in a blank Word document.
- Insert a field in way mentioned in the link.
- Copy that field to the clipboard (so in the next step, the special wildcard ^c will paste the same field replacing the numbers).
- Replace with wildcards checkbox ticked:
Find: RegExRules[0-9]*"
Replace: RegExRules^c"
Again, before replacing ensure you’ve the field in your Clipboard.
- Because the auto-numbered sequence starts at 1, and I think it should start at 0, you’ll need to edit the very first field and add \r0. This link may help you know how: [url removed]
- Select the whole text, right-click and select Update field. Now you must have all the right numbers starting with zero.
And that’s it!

You can also automate it in AutoHotkey, but if you are more comfortable with the most common integrated Excel functions in this easy way:
- In Word, split the XML in lines, one for each regex (just a add a carriage return via Find & Replace function).
- Copy the whole text and paste it in an empty Excel spread-sheet.
- In Excel, add a number [0, 1, 2, 3…] in column B.
- In Excel, search for RegExRulesX or RegExRulesXX and use third 3rd column to CONCATENATE previous text + RegExRules + the number mentioned before in column B + remaining text.
- Copy the whole column and paste it in Word to remove easily the returns.
And that’s it!

Whatever way you decide to go, I’m just curious, so please let us know the end of the history.
