That did the trick. I had a 100% translated file that showed as 99.5%, with -0.03% not translated and 0.30 something% edited... Analyze didn't work.

You'd think such an expensive "professional" tool with so many years of development shouldn't be affected by so many issues (based on personal experience and on the number of threads that continuously appear in this section). Bah...
I've been translating a doc for 2 days and the percentage was stuck at 22.7. After the batch task it now shows 71. A bit better.

Hi guys,

I'm working with a single file (lots of tables). After translating several segments, I wanted to perform an analysis and received this message:

"Unexpected exception when completing task 'Analyze Files': Invalid number of analysis bands."

Analysis impossible.

Then, I returned to the Editor window, and the XLIFF had disappeared. It's not in the project list anymore and also not in the folder I created (the project is still there though).

It would be just great if somebody had an idea how to solve this issue. I'm working with Trados Studio 2015.

Thanks!

Verena
What confuses me is that you had to analyze your file AFTER translating some segments. Usually my practice is that I add files>prepare (the step automatically analyze files).

Also, you were saying the .XLIFF file was missing. One scenario I know is that the .XLIFF file will disappear from the Studio window after you "Generate Target Translations", but it is definitely still in the target language folder.

Just re-add it to you folder and prepare, I'm sure it'll all work out.

Viel Glück!

Hello,

I have a new entry in the list of issues. When confirming some segments (specific ones within a given TTX file) i get the message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object.". The sole way to make this work is to use the function "Change segment status" and set the segment as translated. When this happens i have noticed that the source terms in the term recognition window (top right of the editor) becomes green).

Is there any workaround? I spend more time fixing issues than translating.

Thanks

Enrico

Word doc with embedded Excels

Hi everyone,
I thought the SRI for Studio 2017 now included the ability for Studio to automatically include embedded content - for example, Excel tables inside a Word doc - in the translation file. I'm trying that with a file, but it's not working. Any ideas or explanations?
Very best,
James.

Thanks, Christian, the workaround you mentioned above worked for me. Once I opened the Properties, I also realized that at some point the Compatibility selection was dimmed for some reason, so also selecting the correct Windows compatibility option likely helped in my case.

I probably had not set it up at all when installed Trados 2015, so that is also a good setting to verify if have problems. Oh, and mine was Win7, so at least that was selectable from the list.
Thanks for writing out the workaround!

I have to translation only one file for a client. I don´t have adobe illustrator installed. Checked the the SDL support and they recommend 3 options: 1. AI Text Convert (which does not seem to exist anymore. the SDL support said that they would convert the ai file to xml which trados can work with.) However, did not get any further.
The other two option seem to require to have Adobe Illustrator installed.
I have investigated quite a lot, have also read the last comment in this conversation form MIkem2012, but its gets too technical for me. Sind this conversation has stared some years ago maybe inbetween somebody has an easier solution? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks Yte
Hello, I think that the best idea is to install Adobe Illustrator, because when you translate the file, you have to make translated *.ai as output file. A workaround just to extract text for translation: If you have Adobe Reader installed, you can open *.ai file just as ordinary pdf and copy-paste any editable text from it e.g. into word table or into text file for translation. But to insert the translation back into *.ai you anyway should have any program that can modify your file to enter your translation back. It can be Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Acrobat Professional which can open *.ai files like Adobe Reader but it can also EDIT the text in your file, although you can only to paste the translated text manually into file. You can export the translated file into Encapsulated Postscript format which can be opened by Illustrator later.

But the installation of Adobe Illustrator is the best option as I've noted.

I received a multi-lingual Excel sheet from a client, did the translation into my language, then go to save Target As and get the message above....it will not save and I can not get the file sent off to the client as I am not getting my target content into the Excel file. How on earth can I get the SDXLIFF file converted to Excel again? Desperate as I need to deliver....sorry if this has been posted before. Cannot locate any similar posts.

It is a bit long-winded because you can't import the previous TMs directly, you have to export them all and then import them all into the new big TM.

Or I assume you are aware that you can simply select multiple TMs for the same project.

That this software really does not care where it puts its files. If I double click on a sdlppx-file in Folder XXX, I probably will find the project folder in Folder YYY, if I don't remember to especially browse to XXX when the project is created. The software should display a file selector box instead of assuming files should go where they went last time, or what do you think?

What makes me crazy sometimes about SDL Studio | Drag and drop

Post title: Drag and drop

I'm new to Studio, but while testing it, I noticed that if I use its drag and drop feature to translate a single file, Studio dumps it in the common DropFiles folder instead of the source folder, so DropFiles will quickly become a gigantic mess, and customers' files will be mixed in one and the same folder.

This essentially makes drag and drop useless, unless one can avoid this with "Save as". It would still be a not very intelligent default.

What you describe is obviously just as useless.
