Hello,

I would like to share some thoughts about Studio 2017. Maybe what I am going to write below has been mentioned before, I am not sure... if so, I am sorry for being redundant :)

The 2017 version has some obvious major improvements that I found very helpful (particularly the terminology suggestion from the TM). But at the same time, there are some features I would like to see in a subsequent update (features that already exist in Wordfast, for example, and that are very useful, productivitywise): 1. I would be very happy if Studio were able to auto-suggest, in the target segment, the capitalized nouns appearing in the source segment. E.g.: in source we have the word Trados. In the target, as soon as I hit T, I would like the software to auto-suggest Trados (below my typing, in a bubble, just like it suggests previous translations now). This would save us A LOT of time! Please correct me if this feature exists and it's just me that couldn't find/activate it :)

2. And maybe this exists already, too: please extend the above to figures as well!

Does anyone else have this suggestion? Or, better: does this feature already exist? :)

I had the same very irritating problem here is how I solved it.

Situation:

I noticed that all the further segments of the text were in the "Translated" status, condition that was obviously not correct. I suppose this was due to a wrong key combination I typed.

I've selected all that segments (segments get yellow), then right click and "change segment status" to "not translated".

From that point on I was able to work as usual.

Please copy your entire project on a second - backup computer. Open Studio 2015, then do Open Project and select your .sdlproj file.

Your entire project opens on the new computer.

I have 2 computers, I backup the entire folder every day on the second computer. If the main computer fails, I can open the project in 1 second on the backup computer.

Please do not use one of the method mentioned above: saving your files/TM/Termbase in a separate way.

I hope it clarifies the matter.

Hi,
no need to do that (or please tell us why so people may help you more precisely), unless you want to revise and spell-check your TM. But then you better use a TM Management tool like Olifant or Heartsome TMX Manager. With the latter one you will be able to do just that: export the TMX in MS word or MS Excel, make your corrections and re-import in a fresh TM.
Trados Studio will only export a TM to TMX format, not to other application formats.

Yes, I know but I get reverse curly apostrophes instead of curly apostrophes.

Sorry Nathalie, I'm afraid I didn't carefully read your post. Because I'm using a swiss keyboard which is most convenient for my language pairs, I never run in these problems: it has all possible strokes at my disposal and I can switch to one of the languages in Windows. I guess you could do the same with *any* keyboard by loading the appropriate language options in Windows, but a solution for your question is still outstanding, I hope someone else will intervene.

Hello,
Since a couple of weeks, when trying to generate the target file, Studio 2015 gives the following error:
"Value can not be Null. Parameter: Key".
Everything else seems to work perfectly, I can translate, create the return package etc.
Only the generation of the target file does not work anymore..
Does anybody have any idea? Thank you in advance!!

Trados word count is too small

I have a rather large project to translate an English website into Japanese. My translation agency gave me sdlxliff files. As I translate them, I felt that the word count is much larger than what the Trados analysis says, so I counted the same set of files using an on-line tool: [url removed]
Here are the results for six files in total:
Trados 2015: 38235
Wordy: 76747
I realize there could be a small difference between different applications, but it should not be twice as many.
My files came in html.ttx.sdlxliff extension.

How can this happen? Does anyone know a good word counting application? It would be great if it produces a breakdown according to match percentages like Trados, but a total word count alone will help.

The quotes are quotation marks - surrounding a quotation. The opening pair is automatically “upside down” and the second pair is regular - because this is how quotations should be. I assume that software is programmed accordingly.
Manually: Alt +0147 for upside down and Alt +0148 for regular, or you will have to program your keyboard.

Hi folks,
In Studio 2017 is there a keyboard shortcut for selecting Fragment Match 1, 2 or 3?
I can select TM Match 1, 2 or 3 using Crtl+1, 2 or 3 but this only seems to work for TM matches.
I can apply the currently selected fragment match using Crtl+Alt+M, but I can't seem to select one fragment match or the other unless I click on it with the mouse.
Any ideas?

Hello there,

I'm wondering if anybody can help me with this issue. I have already been in touch with SDL and all they did was tell me that they didn't know the answer and advised me to ask my question in a forum instead...

I already use Trados Studio 2015 SR-2 (SDLTradosStudio2015_SR2_5082.exe) and I have recently installed SDL MultiTerm 2015 SR-2 (SDLMultiTermDesktop2015SR2_1629.exe).

Frustratingly, every time I have tried to create a termbase, when I click 'finish' I am met with the following message: "Unable to create termbase. Class not registered"

Does anybody know what this means?

I have found a few threads with the same problem but the solutions offered, such as "Install Service Pack 1" and "uninstall and then re-install" are unfortunately irrelevant for me as I have already done both of these things.

If anybody could offer any help I would be very grateful. It's incredibly frustrating not being able to use this software which I've heard is very handy.

...because you just type the first letters of the translation and AutoSuggest will propose you the entire expression, so no need for any shortcut. This is what the fragment match does: it sends everything it finds to Autosuggest.

But if there is a shortcut then check the keyboard command options: maybe there is such one which is empty and you have to define it.

Thanks Mike,
It looks like Autosuggest includes the fragment match in the T9 menu if there's just one fragment match, otherwise the fragment matches aren't included in the Autosuggest menu. In other words if there are two or more fragment matches I don't get the Autosuggest menu and I have to click on them to use them.

I've looked through the keyboard shortcut options and couldn't find anything to quickly select one or other of the fragment matches.

Also in general I'd say I'm getting a lot less Autosuggest matches now I'm using 2017 compared to 2015. I have everything checked, Termbase, TM, Autosuggest dictionaries, Autotext and Fragment matches. I think the only addition compared to to what I was using in 2015 is the fragment match.

Another strange thing that's happening is that sometimes I get an Autosuggest T9 menu when I type the first and second letter and then the suggestion is hidden if I type the third, fourth, etc. letter of a word so I'll miss many suggestions. At other times the suggestion is still shown as I type more letters of the word. I know it will be hidden if I type a wrong letter, but in some cases it's hidden even if the letters are right, in others not so though. I've tried changing the "Show suggestion window when there are ... or fewer suggestions" from 3 to 5 and changing the "Show suggestions with ... characters" from 3 to 5 and it makes no difference, I still only get suggestions when typing the first one or two letters, after that they're hidden as soon as I type the third letter. I don't have "Hide suggestions that have already been used" or "Case sensitive" checked, so I don't know what's going on there.

Hello,

I have an Excel glossary which contains a large number of acronyms and their meanings. The glossary also contains several descriptive fields for each term.
While translating, I want Term Recognition to propose both the full version, and the acronym. I.e. if the term 'bureau d'études' appears in the French source text, I want to be able to choose either 'Design Office', or 'DO'.

I have therefore done the following:

(1) Created duplicate lines in my Excel glossary to deal with these acronyms, as follows:

French column: / English column:
bureau d'études / Design Office
bureau d'études / DO
BE / Design Office
BE / DO

(2) Converted this Excel file using MultiTerm Convert.
(3) Imported this Excel file into my termbase using the "Synchronize on Term" option.

This successfully creates single entries with two alternative translations, i.e. for the French term 'bureau d'études', both 'DO' and 'Design Office' are listed as English terms (within one entry). So far so good. However - here's the problem - for such an entry, each of the descriptive fields from my Excel glossary appears twice in MultiTerm, e.g.:

Entry ID: 1
Customer: XXX
Agency: YYY
Status: ZZZ
Customer: XXX
Agency: YYY
Status: ZZZ
French: bureau d'études
English: -Design Office
-DO

Does anyone know what I need to do to avoid this duplication of the descriptive fields from my Excel glossary?
