Converting .itd files into a format usable outside SDLX

Poster: Eloise Testu

Hello everyone,

I have a problem: SDLX doesn't exist anymore. For two years, I worked for an agency as an in-house translator. This agency was equipped with SDLX. When I left this job to go freelance, I copied all my translations on my external hard drive (more than 500 projects).

I thought I would be able to open those files with the latest version of Trados, so I downloaded the trial version, but it didn't work.

Does anyone still have SDLX or an older version of Trados with which they could convert my .itd files to .sdlxliff or .tmx?

Having two years worth of experience that I can't leverage when I market myself is incredibly frustrating.

I will of course pay you for this service.

Thanks for your help!

Eloïse

Hi Eloïse,

I have just opened an ITD file from one of my SDL projects from 2011 and saved it as an SDLXLIFF file. The SDLXLIFF file can then be imported into a translation memory.

There's no need to pay for anything, other than Studio ;-)

Thank you for your answer, Ben.

This is really strange that you could open your .itd file and I couldn't open mine. Maybe because I tried doing so in the trial version of Studio 2015? But what is the use of a trial version if you can't open files that you normally can open with the paying version?

I sent my file by e-mail to the Studio support team, but even them told me they could not open it. This is really weird.

Anyone here from the Trados support team to suggest anything?

XLIFF validation error in Studio when creating return package

Hi,

Has someone else encountered this problem in Studio 2014 and found a solution for it/the reason why this happens?

When I try to create the return package, I receive the following error message:

Error occurred in file abc.xlf: SDL XLIFF validation error in line 13643 Offset 361183: The 'mtype' attribute is invalid. The value 'x' is according to its datatype 'urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:doucmnt.1.2:AttrType_Mtype' invalid. - The value 'x' is according to the memberTypes of the Union invalid.

I did not manage to find out what the problem is. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer.

Best,

Tanja

Error message "failed to save target content: Extra tag within the segment"

Hi, can anyone help me? I received source files from a client, Studio package and the source files in Word format, as well. I worked with the Studio package, but 2 of the 4 files cannot be saved as target only.

The error message goes "failed to save target content: Extra bookmark start blablabla, bookmark start blablabla tag within the segment".
This error message refers to the last translatable segment, wich only contains the web address of the company ( [url removed] ). There are no tags or anything in the source, neither....

When I try to save the second problematic file, I get the error message "The w:root start tag on line 1 position 2 does not match the end tag of w:p. line 3165."
Strangely, this is the first segment with the file name, so there is no way to fix anything...

What I tried afterwards was to create a new project with the 2 Word source files, but I can't even open them. I get an error message that the file is corrupt.

On the other hand, apparently, the client managed to create a Studio package from these files which I could work on without problems (apart from saving target files).

So I am not sure now if the client sent corrupt files or if there is something wrong with my Studio. It would be interesting to know also because as I spent a couple of hours already to try to fix this and I have to assess whether it's my responsibility or not or if there is any chance for me to solve the problem.
I use 2015 and have installed the SR a few days ago.

Thanks for any hints!

Cécile

Hi Eloïse,

Yes that is very strange as the trial version is a complete full version of the professional Studio version. When compared with the Freelance version the trial version has more functionality.

I still have SDLX installed, if you wanted I could try opening a sample file from you and see what I can do with it. PM me if you want to try it out.

You need the free Open Exchange app AnyTm.
It comes ready-installed in Studio 2015 but for Studio 2014 you have to download it from here:

Once installed, add any TMs that don't match your project languages through the AnyTm TM provider.

Problem with creating return package in queue and freezes

Poster: ychang

Hello,

I have been using Trados Studio 2014 for almost two years and upload package onto Wordserver is always effortless.
But just earlier I have done a bit translation of a huge project and habitually create return package to upload it to Worldserver. Trados created the return package, and then started the "import return package in queue" and never proceed.

Has anyone encountered this situation before? I have contacted my client's IT specialist but not sure if they have an answer...

Suggestions are welcome!

Thank you.

Hi Cecile,

Sorry for the delay in reply.

The following solution should help you-

Please note that for technical issues, you should ask in our own SDL community forum

Corrupted Tags in TM | After running regex tagger, how to export to TM and retain tagging?

Post title: After running regex tagger, how to export to TM and retain tagging?

I was able to run the Regex tagger on the TMX file in memoQ, and it works great, converting all that coding to tags. However, when I try to export the TMX file, the tags revert back to expanded coding. I've tried exporting to all the file formats in memoQ with the same result, and even when adding the tagged TMX to a memoQ TM, the coding ends up expanding out into full text format, rather than being read as tags.

I really need this coding to read as tags in the TM file. Is there any next solution?

Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Now, when your tmx works as a file for translation, try to create a dedicated empty TM and confirm all to that TM. Not sure, but you can try...
Update: Also you can remove all such self-made tags from target by filtering segments with such tags, then selecting all (as filtered) and then press Ctrl+F8 (all after Regex Tagging). Then confirm all to the said dedicated TM. In this case, even if you still have strings in source, TM will suggest tag-free variants.

However, I am still waiting for hints concerning the other problem...

I have posted it in the other forum now, as well.

Maybe someone can help me with the tag/bookmark issue?

Actually, when I delete the problematic line in the Word source file, I can now save the target file after translating it with STudio, but I can't open it in Word. It tells me that the content causes problems....

When confirming the segments to an empty TM, the coding still comes out as extended text.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions! With the regex tagger, I can much more easily isolate the tags for removal.

I had exactly this problem after translating a file last night. The file had a single visible tag, at the very beginning, and when I tried to save the target file, I got a message saying that this tag didn't match the (invisible) end tag, 10 lines further down.

I'm also using Studio 2015 SR2.

To solve it, I re-opened the source file in Trados (not the SDLXLIFF) and let the TM do the translation for me. Then I was able to save the target file - and open it with Word 2016.

It wasn't the first time I'd had to do this, either.

It is by design. When you have portions of text (highlighted or bracketed for example) that you don't need translated, you can use tagger to convert such portions in tags. Thus it keeps such fragments intact during translation. And then, when you export back to original format, it reverts such tags back to their plain text form.
I forgot about it... Maybe someone else will find a way.
Good luck :)
