Steve,

In the light of the above, can we hold until you know what solution support have come up with? I don't urgently need the Preview function right now but it's pretty pressing that I crack on with the projects I'm working on right now.

Olly, Office 365 is the same as Office 2016 so we basically have the same set-up.

Anyone using Windows 8.1 and also having the same problem with mymemory?

It will be most appreciated if "yes", and whether a solution was found!

Looks like the problem is with mscorlib or with Trados 2011 itself!

Your input is being looked forward to!

Thanks,
Deven.

Hi,

I have a source file that I've imported into Trados Studio 2015.
I also have the translated file (not translated in Trados)

Normally I use a converter to create a TTX from the translated Project

Is it possible to somehow import the translated file into trados so that I can create a TTX file?

If anything is unclear I can try to explain better.

Thanks

Hello all,

I've got an issue that is happening in a number of TMs I've been provided by a client. In these TMs, coding that should read as tags is not reading as tags but showing up as the full coding text string.

i.e. This water heater...
Ce chauffe-eau...

I've checked out these TMs in both Trados and memoQ and in both tools the tags are not reading correctly. I've explored a number of options for removing these corrupted tags from the TMs, including download of the Oliphant tool. I believe I have a workable solution for removing this corrupted coding text from the TMs, but once I fix the TMs, I would like to know how to prevent this from happening in the future, so I do not have to keep removing new garbage from TMs.

I was able to gather some pieces for a specific project with a problematic TM, including the TMX version of the TM, which contains the corrupted tags; the bilingual file from which the TM was supposedly created in which tags display correctly; and a sdltm vresion of the TM in which tags display correctly. From what it sounds like, the client is usually provided the bilingual file deliverable and the native target file for each job, and the bilingual file is updated to the master TM upon project close.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is this a problem that comes from using different versions of Trados, like upgrading TMs from 2007 to 2015 format? Or from 2014 to 2015 format?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Post title: Alignment and create a virgin TM

One way of doing what you want, might be as follows:

Align source and target
Import the alignment into a virgin TM
Run a pretranslate on the Studio project with the source file.
Convert the sdlxliff file to a TTX file with the converting utility.

But perhaps someone know a more direct way of doing it. I think the above should work. Though.

Yes, it worked for me and I am mighty grateful. Being able to dictate in Trados is a great benefit. To make Dragon type directly into Trados you go Tools > Options > Miscellaneous; then remove the tick from 'Use the dictation box for unsupported applications'.

Dear Colleagues,

I'm having the same problem. The provided solutions don't work for me.

I've contacted Trados by email and online chat and they "are not able" to fix the problem, saying that was caused by Windows updates... they have a solution for a similar situation, but only for Trados 2015.

Unfortunately I am no longer able to launch Trados 2009, but I won't buy any Trados products anymore. I am not willing to have problems every 5 years or each time Windows remembers to make an update...

This is just to let you know that there are many options available. Maybe they don't have the same resources, but surely won't give so much trouble...

Thanks and regards

Hi Helena,

This sounds like the same problem many are having after a security update installed by Windows. Uninstalling the offending update fixes the problem. Check to see which updates were recently installed on your Windows machine, then uninstall them one by one. In my case it was just one security update installed on the 14th March. You can also use System Restore as a more drastic measure to restore your computer to an earlier date.
Hello Rob,
Thank you very much! Your suggestion was a must! It worked! I thought that I wouldn' t be able to use Trados 2009 again! Thanks a lot! I also thank to Steve and to Lore for their help!
I'm very happy!
Thanks again and regards to all!

e.g. Wordfast Classic ( ) or Metatexis for Word ( ), so in case you prefer to have a full control over the translated content (including the source) along with the VBA environment to automate tasks, there are still alternatives. T2007 should however work fine, too.

Hi Suzanne,

you don't say what OS version you are running so my answers is quite generic.
In order to be able to remove any software/updates etc. you must be logged in as admin. and not as a secondary user account.

Updating SDL Studio Freelance: why reselect languages?

Topic: Updating SDL Studio Freelance: why reselect languages?
Poster: Matthijs Frankena

I just installed the latest update for my SDL Studio 2015 package. Went smoothly, except for the same thing that always manages to surprise me: After the update is installed, the setup wizard is started in which I am prompted to select 5 languages that I work with.

Several things are wrong with this: First of all, my needs did not change suddenly. I still need the same languages that I needed before I installed this update. Perhaps there are technical reasons why the program needs to do this, but I am very skeptical about this. If all my other settings are automatically kept, how come this suddenly needs to be configured again?

Secondly, I must select 5 languages. I only need three (Dutch, English, German) and all regional variants of a selected language are automatically enabled; but if I select only three base languages, the wizard refuses to continue. To satisfy it, I select two regional variants of any of the base languages and I can finish the wizard. This is absolutely weird behaviour. Why 5? Why not allow for less? Why accept two different variants of one and the same language, when all variants are enabled automatically if you select one of them?

Together with the insistence on the part of Studio that I configure an Outlook account when I create a return package (No, I will NOT configure Outlook - I uninstalled as much of it as I could), this counts for me as unexplainable artefacts of the personal preferences of the makers. Could this all please be removed in the next version of Studio?

Best regards,

Matthijs Frankena

Poster: Guido Villa

Hi, I run a translation agency, and since the time I was using Trados 2014 - now I am using 2015 - I am experiencing a serious problem with most translators who receive my project packages. That is, they see the message "one or more files you selected are marked as read only".
I know that I can somehow solve the problems by letting them return the translation in the .sdlxliff file only, without project, but I would like to know the solution to the problems of my sending read-only files. How can I make them usable and translatable?

Thanks very much for your help.

Best regards

However the topic is Trados support...
You can open tmx for translation and use Regex Tagger to convert strings into tags.
