I work with SDL Trados Studio 2014 Pro.
Now that I´m finishing with my first translated file -from a .pdf to Word- and trying to get a preliminary
view and save target as Word I get this nasty error notice. :-?

I would be grateful if you could help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Well, actually I tried to do so. The system gave me some info. about tags but not enough for me to solve it.
I finally did the following:

I realized that those two tags at the beginning and at the end of the document resulted from TWO PICTURES at the beginning and end of the original PDF SOURCE DOC.
I erased them from the converted source file and "the problem disappeared". I could save the word doc and THEN copy and paste the two pictures.

I found a way out, but not ideal !

Thanks anyway :)

Any further suggestions welcome.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for coming to my help once again, and so fast too!

I experimented with the tool this weekend and it works great. It does organize the data a bit differently when you go from .sdltb to .xls, but it is really a minor inconvenience compared to what I was doing before with Multiterm convert. So again, thanks!

On the other hand, I do have a question that you may be able to answer.

In the Converter's documentation, it's specified:

"the Multi-line format is not recommended, but popular, and therefore supported."

I find the Multi-line format to be the most intuitive. It follows the same logic as most databases: one line per record. Since the format is popular and intuitive, why are the tools not specifically built to support it? Just wondering...

Thanks!

Mat

Critical terminology-related issues in T2014 SP2 | Thank you so much for bringing this up!

This problem has been annoying me for years. The terminology feature in studio has the potential to be one of the most performance enhancing features of them all. I use it all the time to add not only terms, but also longer phrases that I know will be recurring in the future - and even names of people and places etc., which is really a big help in the work I do. But then, of course, I keep running into the same problems mentioned here, in addtion to this one: After working for an hour or two or whataver, invariably sooner or later term recognition stops working altogether, and then I find studio is working on a process which takes up both a lot of processor capacity and more and more memory (the memory usage just keeps increasing). This process never stops, and the only solution is to restart Studio. I have tried this on several computers, so it definitely has nothing to do with any hardware issues. Extremely annoying, and something I have high expectations the programmers will now finally be able to solve after all these years...

My PDF is 270 pages / 80K and I ran into this problem.

I did the SDL solution:
[url removed]

This did not help.
I followed the suggestion to translate the now converted word version of the pdf (add the word file as a file to be translated), but I ran into another problem:

"Failed to save target content: Name cannot begin with the < character, hexadecimal value 0x3C. Line 2, position 5982."

Paul, I saw you responding in another post on this:

... the following:

The original PDF
The fully translated sdlxliff files based on the xml files you exported
The fully translated sdlxlif file based on the PDF you originally translated

I can take a look and see what I can do with the file.

Can you help me with this one too?

One NOTE: My file is not fully translated. I am supposed to deliver it in 3 batches. Is this going to be a (the?) problem?
I have saved partially translated files in the past without any problem and was not expecting this.

Thanks.

Sorry to bump this up again, but it's driving me bonkers. In this particular job I have to search continually for little two-worders and three-worders that come up again and again, but I have now resorting to scrolling up to previous segments to find them rather than concordance, which is non-existent. The grey window just sits there saying there are no TMs open.

I would check the settings to the project and see if the proper TMs are attached to it in the Language setting. I have discovered that it is easy to forget attaching the TMs, and then I believe they are without checking.

Studio 2014, duplicates when updating TM | Mulitple TMs shouldn't matter

Post title: Mulitple TMs shouldn't matter

Hi Lorenzo,
In our case no, it happens with only one memory linked to a project. I haven't tested the scenario with multiple
memories, but I would expect it not to make a difference, since only one TM actually gets updated (IIRC).
The issue is not that the TM won't get updated, but that each update after the first creates a "duplicate" if the target content differs. Three updates with different targets=triplicates! (oh joy...)

(In our workflow the multiple TM scenario is rare, so I'm investigating the cases where we lose most of the time/money)

PS.

I've had a look at the updated sdlxliffs created by different methods to spot any differences that triggers one behavior or the other, but there seems to be only minor stuff, nothing conclusive. The included "original-file" is slightly different, but it only seems to be rezipped, the actual file inside is identical. There's a hash on the segment that differs also, but I can't tell what that's for. The hash isn't the same when the update works either, so it seems to change every time, regardless of update method. It differs in format from the segment hash in the TM, but I'm sure there's some connection between the two.

Anyway, I think I'll have to give up on this for now, and just know that the update mechanism inside projects is severely flawed. If it only had worked as the separate TM import, all had been well.
(Why on earth don't they by the way? There seems to be a lack of development coordination here...)

/Andreas

Thanks Roy. I know it's something like that, but can't figure it out. I highlight the translation in Projects, but not sure what to do when I go there. There isn't any Translation Memory Assigned ... tab, or anything like that. It all exports OK to Word, but I've just exited and it tells me the TM hasn't been updated since 31 January ...

Hello, dear colleagues! I need your help.

I have set my google account for providing paid service of google translation. I received a Key code. Everything looks ok in my google account. When I opened my Trados, along with TM I chose Google translate, entered the Key code and opened a file for translation. But then nothing happens...I see an error 403. Does anyone know what it means and how can I fix it?
Thank you in advance!

Not sure if this answers your question, but when I am told that the folder is not empty, and Studio, therefore, can't use it, I make sure to create a new folder and point Studio (the project or whatever) to that folder. I have had no problem with this so far at least.

Post title: Checking the Projects settings

Have you done the following?

Go to the Projects window, right click the project in question and choose Project Settings in the menu (or click the Project Settings button on the Home ribbon).
In the Project Settings window > All language pairs > Translation memory ...
If a translation memory is listed here, I would think something is definitely wrong.
If there is no list of translation memories here, then you would have to click the Add button just above and add one or more TMs.
Hope this will solve it for you.

I cannot regretably remember all the details (I think there is a Youtube instruction video on how to activate Google Translate), but I seem to remember that it's not sufficient to get an API key - you also have to activate the Billing procedure.

Yes, I did activate the Billing! But I will check again, as well as the Youtube tutorial. Thanks for your reply!
