SDL Trados Studio 2021 doesn't have any language restrictions. All languages included.
However there is nothing dangerous in renaming a single folder. You don't even delete it. Just rename LDSRClient5 to LDSRClient5_old. (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\LDSRClient5) This is much easier than uninstalling and license resetting.

I have recently installed Trados 2017 on a new computer. When I try to create a return package I get the message "Warning - The process cannot access the files because they are being used by another process." I then receive the error message "Error - Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Trados is still installed on my old machine but has been deactivated. I have tried to create a return package with two different projects and could not do so, so I don't think it has to do with the project itself. I am certain neither of these projects was loaded into Trados on my old computer. Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hello all!

It’s Dec 2020.

I just had the same problem. While restarting and came to this Firmin to find this old string.

And I panicked to lose all my work as it was saying 0% complete, but 100.16% translated. Strangely, I decided to close and restart again the program. Ant there, 100% translates and on files, 100 complete. Relieved!

But what can be the cause of such miscalculation?

Something that has worked for me when receiving the same error message, although under diffferent circumstances, is "Restablecer diseño de la ventana" which can be found under "Ver" in Spanish versions, I think, although I am using an older version of the software.

I would do in this way:

1. Copy All Source to Target
2. Export for Bilingual Review
3. Open the bilingual file and edit/translate it as requested
4. Save and Close the bilingual file.
5. Updated from Bilingual Review
6. Accept all track changes

Hi,

I am totally new at this so please be patient with me!

I just bought SDL Trados 2021 and I am trying to find my way around it (without jumping off a bridge in the process)

I am trying to add the SDL Machine Translation feature to a project and it asks me to choose from 1) SDL Be Global Online or 2) SDL Enterprise Translation Server

When I pick one of them, it asks me for the following info:

-Account ID
-User ID
-API Key
-Touch Point ID

I have looked through all the emails I received from Trados when I dowloaded the software but cannot find the information for the life of me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the one you want is "SDL Language Cloud".
Also, go to the SDL App Store and get the MT Enhanced plugin so you can use Google and Bing.

But the SDL Language Cloud is not the Machine Translation? I added the language cloud but it does not have the same feature as the machine translation, i.e. it translates automatically your text in the target language?

I know 2 apps: QTranslate (for free) and GT4T (for fee).
Other fellow translators insist GT4T is better and is worth its cost, however I prefer QT because it does what I need at no cost and no need to share your API. Plus QT supports #1 MultilanguageRussian dictionary (Multitran) which is a personal benefit for me as a Russian translator. Both apps can use shortcuts to replace text with translation. And both support Google and Microsoft Bing MT engines. You can try them and then make your choice.

Don't be too enthusiastic about the cloud function. I installed 2021 and 'Create a Cloud Project' crashes the program with a 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' error. I also get a 'No internet connection' error. Applying translations from the TM gives random search errors. This all within the first 10 minutes of trying out the new version. This is so typical of every new version of SDL Trados. It all looks the same, apart from the splash screen, but it's still horribly programmed and by the time it's somewhat functional through service packs, a new version is released.

Suggestion to SDL: To get rid of this error for once and forever, which accompanies Studio since its first version (2009) and for many types of bugs, the SDL programmer (or the third party IT instance SDL occasionally employs) simply should rewrite this message (=assign a different text message), and nobody would be annoyed by it anymore.

Just testing out Trados 2021. For what it's worth, I'm still on Trados 2014, just because with the work I do, I only really need my CAT tool to perform basic functions.

One of the things I was hoping Trados 2021 would achieve is actually performing really basic tasks. One example is formatting.

Say I have a sentence that reads: "Hannah is happy today". I want to bold 'happy'. In MemoQ, it's a basic process, whereby I'd hit Ctrl + B before typing 'happy', then again to unbold for 'today'.

I started to feel pretty excited, as this time around with the new Trados, I can bold 'happy' via the keyboard. Yay! And yet when you go to reverse it for 'today', it suddenly doesn't work. 'Today' continues to be bolded.

If you select 'today' and go up to the top ribbon and click the 'b' to unbold manually, that doesn't work. You have to select the word and click on 'clear formatting' for it to work.

Is it me or is this...faintly ridiculous? This is such a simple, basic thing that MemoQ has been handling for years with no problems.

Am I missing something here?

would do what you need. Please take a look at Help or Studio manual to see how does it work.

Also consider using the copy source to target function - in this case you just enter your translation in appropriate places between the tags and rarely need manual adjusting.

P.S. I don't have Studio 2021, I use 2017, but the formatting function works exactly this way since several latest releases.

Hi,

I'm a long-term user of MemoQ but from time to time, one of my clients asks me to do projects on their SDL Studio 2021 server. I havn't had big issues with it so far. I'm now awaiting a big proofreading project (in Studio) consisting of several files. MemoQ has a function that allows to work on several files at once (which is very useful for checking segment consistency for example). I've tried and looked for a way to work with several files at the same time in Studio, but couldn't find anything so far (the batch functions don't seem to do what I'm looking for). What am I missing?
How do you check consistency (segment/terminology) through several files? How do you do the propagation after you've changed a segment in one file that repeats itself in each file? (and so on...)

Actually, it works this way since Studio 2009.

In addition to the above mentioned by Natalia, you can use Ctrl+Space to remove formatting exactly the same way you do with bolding. Just keep your thumb 2 millimeters lower than when you press Ctrl+B. To avoid those additional problems you described, apply bold to a selected word, not before/after you start/stop typing a word to be bolded. Once you have typed a sentence, say 'Hannah is happy today', option 1: press Ctrl+left arrow to put the cursor after the word 'happy', then press Ctrl+Shift+left arrow to select the word 'happy'; option 2: press Ctrl+left arrow 2 times to put the cursor before the word 'happy', then press Ctrl+Shift+right arrow to select the word 'happy'; option 3: use your mouse to select the word 'happy', then press Ctrl+B to bold or Ctrl+Space to unbold it.

Did you manage to open all files together?
After clicking on the project name, you should see the list of all files. Highlight all files and the hit "open for review". This will open all files together.
What I do when reviewing multiple files is opening all files together for review and changing the segments status to draft, if the segments are already confirmed. Like this my changes will be reflected in all segments.
I'm not sure it is the standard procedure, but it works.

Hi Elena,

Thanks for your input!
I havn't got the files yet but when I do, I'll definitely try that.
Is there a way to change the segment status in all files at once or do I have to go in each file and change the status there?
It does seem that SDL studio doesn't have anything similar to what I'm looking for, does it?

When you have the files you can open them all at once and see if their status is confirmed or not. If it is, you can select all segments with Ctrl+Shift+End, then right click and change the status.

Hello everyone, I´ve had to review a document translated by a translator with SDL Trados 2017. The agency asked me to hand over the clean and unclean files. I understand that the uncleaned is the xliff file, and that the clean one is the .doc file. But I was asked to deliver the .doc document without the tracked changes, that is to say, the final version ready to be used. How do I get this?
