Hi

I have Trados Studio 2019 and this morning, my computer suffered a fatal crash out of nowhere, so I am not able to deactivate the old Studio on that computer, and I am trying to "Reset" my license, but I get an error massage each time I try - it just says "An error occurred".

I watched the official SDL video on how to do it - but I cannot get it to work. It just keep giving me that error message.

I am supposed to receive a large job tomorrow!

What do I do?

Helle

In such a scenario, the best thing to do would be to contact SDL support. I know they don’t answer quickly but still I advise you to do it, or maybe phone them to assist you.

Do you have a type of license you can use on two different machines?
Your process should involve the “return” license button first, and only after that the reinstall/reset, if I remember correctly. Can you follow on that from your SDL account?

Looking to share SDL Trados files and TMs with other freelancers without SDL Live Team or GroupShare

Hi all:

I'm about to start a large project and will need the help of two freelancers I often work with. This project has a very large number of files so I would like to be able to put the files in a common directory and perhaps even update the TM live (if possible). We all own recent freelance versions of SDL Trados. I looked into SDL Live Team, which would be great, but it's over $2000 a year. I was considering using Sharepoint for this. Can you update a TM live in Sharepoint? Or would we need to update it at the end of the day perhaps? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Choosing a DeepL glossary

Hi everyone!

I just linked DeepL Pro to Trados (2017), and I am missing the feature from the DeepL Windows app, the one that allowed me to choose which of my DeepL glossaries to use (based on the client or specialization). Has anyone been able to choose a specific DeepL glossary in Trados? 2017 or more recent versions?

Thanks in advance!

Post title: I used Dropbox for that

I translated a big project along with 2 my team mates. I created 3 identical TMs for each translator (for example, TM_sk for me, TM_jd for John Doe, and TM_mj for Mary Jane). Each translator could update his/her TM and read the two other TMs, with all 3 TMs stored on Dropbox. I borrowed this method from Paul Filkin of SDL. I read an article about it, but I cannot find it now...
The restriction is that free Dropbox allows me to have only 2 connections. Actually I did not need more, and that was sufficient for my purposes.

However, this method is obviously not as convenient as GroupShare. If it was, the SDL solutions would not cost so much.

Thank you Stepan. This is exactly the type of solution I was hoping for! I think I'll be able to live with the limitations for the time being. I had not thought of creating 3 TMs, this will be very helpful, thank you!

Dangerous key-combination

It happened this week. I was translating a 20000 words file and had 50 % done. One moment I must have pressed a wrong key combination instead of go to next untranslated segment. This would not work anymore and in the files menu I saw suddenly I had translated 90 % already. So the software had turned the status of the rest of the file into 'translated'.
I wonder if there is such a command, that by pressing one key combination all is made translated. Such a command should not be possible, if I knew what it was I would take this command off.

Dear Heinrich,

I don't know of such a function exists (although that doesn't mean much), but if it does, I could definitely see use cases for me ...

Anyway, shouldn't a simple undo (CTRL+Z) solve your problem?

but never heard of any solution. Even though it keeps happening from the early years of Studio: [url removed]

This happens when you select segments backwards. For example, you have just translated segment 87. If you press Shift anywhere in segment 87, then click anywhere in segment 86 or 85 or ... 1,
and then press Ctrl+Enter, you get this bug. Just avoid selecting multiple segments backwards.

Must be careful. I made it worse by saving the file with the false status. Should/could have pressed Undo.

Change SDL 2015 default languages | Impossible to change the 5 default languages? (Solved)

Post title: Impossible to change the 5 default languages? (Solved)

I tried all these suggestions (and from other community forums), but it doesn't work. Some suggest editing the registry but also say it's risky, so I refrained from it.

Is it even possible to change and reset the 5 default languages? Trados version: 2017

So far I tried:
uninstall/reinstall with license reset
uninstall/reinstall without license reset
removing any additional sdl program from my control panel, then reinstall
repair the sdl from Control Panel

None worked, always the same languages stay there.

Have I missed something? Also, should this process be this cumbersome?

*Update, solved:

I logged into my administrator account and managed to repair SDL from Control panel, then edit language pairs. My previous attempts were from an additional, side account on my PC. I also noticed I was not "signed in" in my Trados in admin account, could this have helped the application of changes? Anyway, it's solved now.
