Try to disable your virus scanner and try again. If that is the solution, then reenable your virus scanner and find the option to allow certain folders, that are needed to start Trados.

I just got mail from SDL that SDL acquired RWS or that RWS acquired SDL -- it's not clear which. I suppose this would not affect Trados user any more than TransPerfect's acquisition of Wordfast affected Wordfast users (my experience as a Wordfast user was that nothing changed except for TransPerfect translators who got access to additional functionality).

It seems a merger between both companies, SDL and RWS, and the operation will come into force only in the Q4 2020.
I suppose SDL will be sending more information on this announcement.

PS: Samuel, there are a few articles and news about this deal on the Web. You probably have found it too.

Hi,

Seems that SDL is to be acquired: "The SDL brand will disappear, and all SDL units rebranded as RWS over time." See [url removed]

No much info for the moment. Let's hope we get more info soon, more specifically about the future of SDL employees and how current SDL freelance translators will be eaten by RWS.

To be continued...

Same old issue SDL seems not to care of. Or maybe they just don't know how to fix it. Reorganizing your termbase can resolve this issue for a short time. I mentioned it recently here: [url removed]
Deja vu again: half-baked stuff for full cost testing.

I wanted to add that I have spoken to Google Billing yesterday afternoon. API and billing are set and should not cause any problems.
However, when I try to use the Google Cloud Platform with my SDL Trados Studio Plus that I bought in 2018 I only see the following message:

Edit Connection to Google Cloud Translation API (Not Responding)

'Not Responding' only shows up for a sec and then disappears to make place for the following message:

The API key you entered cannot be validated with Google.

I then have the option to retry or close. After closing the message, I read this next message:

Sufficient permissions for opening the translation provider 'Google Cloud Translation API' could not be obtained. This translation provider has been disabled.

Today I discovered that SDL has a small program that allows you to validate the Google API key. After I installed the Google API Validator and entered my Google key, I receive the following message:

Google Response
API key is valid

I really don't understand what this is all about. Two wonderful years without problems and now this...

If you are, perhaps you should check on rws.com.
My main concern is if they work as well or better than SDL, or at least that Studio won't suffer as a result.

My main concern is that a CAT tool will be very closely linked to an interested party, namely a translation agency, which already is a problem with SDL. I suspect it won't be less when they become part of RWS.

RWS is also among other things a translation company, but is also big on patents.

I am concerned this doesn't bode well for Studio.

I'm currently using SDL Trados 2019. I purchased SDL Trados 2021, but have not switched over yet. I thought this might be the problem, but seeing your thread, I'm thinking this may not be the case. The message I'm getting is "Sufficient permissions for opening the translation provider "SDL Language Cloud" could not be obtained. This translation provider has been disabled.

Hello, again, Marina.

I've been following your posts and I've been having the same issues. I'm using Windows 10. I don't know if that has anything to do with it (recent updates). Are you by any chance connected through SDL to a translation company server? I am and I'm suspecting that may be where my problem is.

I updated Windows 10 on my computer this month, but I am having the same issue with my second SDL Trados Studio Plus license on a desktop that has not been updated.

When I work for SDL, I log in to their servers manually, but this is not the case at the moment.

Trados 2021 sample files

Greetings to everyone,

I'm a newbie in the translation arena and I've just purchased Trados 2021, after experimenting with the trial version of Trados 2019. After a smooth installation of Trados and Multiterm I wanted to practice with the sample files that should come with the software and which are mentioned in the quick start guides (it'll take a while before the e-learnings for 2021 are available).

Guess what? When I looked into the folder C:\Users\...\Documents\Studio 2021\Projects the only file I found was an XML file named "projects". When I installed the trial version of 2019 all the sample files were there, where they were supposed to be. Is anyone having the same problem with Trados 2021?

Thanks and regards,
Luca Falzoni
