Studio 2017 How to pretranslate using termbase and fragments

Hello,
I'm working at a file which has a large TM and Termbase.

While translating, I'm offered fragment matches and terms from termbase/TM.

However, I would get them automatically in the target segment while confirming to next segment.
Or at least, while pre-translating so that I already have terms already present in the TM/Termbase.

Do you have any idea how I can set the project?

Thanks
Lucia

Please share. I work in Trados Studio 2014 on the old PC.
Installing through Plug-ins does not work.
File/Options/File Types/New or Import Settings does not work either.
Thank you.

Continually getting false positives when verifying terminology

Poster: Brent Sørensen

I am working on an ongoing translation project. There is a TermBase for the project. Whenever I run verification on the terminology, I always get error messages for possible non-usage of the terms. Even if I completely delete a term and start typing the first letters so that it will auto-complete, I still get the message. I've even tried deleting the terms from the TermBase and adding them again. I still get the message. It's always the same few terms that are giving me problems. These terms are used quite frequently in the texts. I always end up getting many false positives when I run verification. It's quite time consuming to check them all. A few times I have even missed legitimate errors. Is there any way I can stop getting these false positives.

On a related note:
Sometimes the texts have many URLs that are not supposed to be translated. These URLs sometimes contain terms from the TermBase. Again I end up getting false positives in verification. Is there any way to have the verification ignore target segments that are identical to the source?

Hello friends, does anybody know whether I can use Trados Studio 2017 with Office 365 online?
Or should I download and install the software package to my computer locally?
This is a new notebook, with Windows 10 and Office 365 online is included.
Thanks,

I would think you have to install the package locally. I haven't tried this myself, though, but the main idea of OneDrive is that it would be a file repository, not a place where you run programs.

Thanks. If I understand correctly, the script writes a temporary marker to the current segment, then performs the find/replace operation, then searches for the marker again, and then deletes the marker.

That's right! It's a simple concept, but it gets the job done.

Greek capital letters falsely inserted with diacritics by NMT- How to fix?

I am having an annoying and time consuming problem with Trados 2019 (other versions as well, perhaps?).
Each time when I'm translating into Greek and an NMT suggestion comes up in capital letters, they include diacritics. For instance, the word "ΠΟΙΌΤΗΤΑ" should be written as "ΠΟΙOΤΗΤΑ", yet this pesky diacritic on the middle "O" ruins my day. Diacritics (an acute for instance) is used when writing in lowercase and also when a sentence starts with a capitalized vowel. In no other case.
MS Word never had such an issue, yet Trados doesn't seem to have gotten the memo.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Do you mean specifically Google Translate's NMT engine, or do you mean another NMT engine? Does this happen with all NMT engines or only with one of them? My initial suspicion is that this misbehaviour might be related to a deficiency in the specific machine translation system you're using.

Out of interest, which version of Word are you using, and do you happen to know which NMT engine Word uses?

Thank you for your reply!

I am using the default SDL Machine Translation that is integrated in the program, I don't use an external API. As such, I don't know whether it occurs with other engines as well. As for your suspicion, I assume the same yet I do not know how to fix it.

As for Word, I am using Word 365, which MIGHT use an NMT yet I wasn't talking about that. In word, if you turn a segment of text into capital letters in Greek it removes the punctuation.

Also,

@Sunjin Gu Thank you for your response as well. Unfortunatelly, the QA menu doesn't have an option to check for this particular issue.

I just tested this in Word 2003. ποιότητα turns into ΠΟΙΌΤΗΤΑ if the text language is not Greek, but if the text language is set to Greek, then ποιότητα turns into ΠΟΙΟΤΗΤΑ. I therefore wonder if a similar thing don't happen with the MT in Trados, i.e. that it may be a language setting issue. I tried translating "quality" and "QUALITY" from English to Greek using the Google Translate API (outside of Trados), and it went perfectly: no diacritic on the capital letter.

In Trados, selecting a word and pressing Shift+F3 a couple of times switches between lowercase and uppercase (as it does in Word). What happens to ποιότητα in Trados when you use Shift+F3 on it (and you made sure the target language is set to Greece Greek) -- does it lose the diacritic when it becomes uppercase?

Thank you for taking the time to test my issue out, I really appreciate it.

So, I did the same test and, indeed, when pressing Shift + F3, the lowercase characters seem to lose their diacritic. HOWEVER, the problem is that they DO have a diacritic each time a suggestion from the MT comes up in capital letters. Thus when that happens I have to manually go in and change them.

What just came to me, thanks to @Sunjin Gu's suggestion, is that perhaps I could create a custom filter and make the QA function chance all capital letters into their "non-diactitified" equivalent automatically. Better to miss out on the rare case when a sentence starts with a capitalized vowel that needs a diacritic than have to change each and every one. Will test this workaround asap and report.

How to activate Autosuggest creator add-on/can I use my Studio 2009 add-on?

Hello, here's hoping you can help me with a thorny issue that I can't seem to solve :)
I purchased Studio 2009 a while back and got an Autosuggest Creator add-on with it. In the mean time I have also purchased Studio 2017 but never needed the Autosuggest feature until now. To further complicate things, the reseller I purchased it from went on ahead and created a new account for me (without asking me...), so the licenses for Studio 2009 (and the activation code for the add-on) and Studio 2017 are on two separate SDL accounts :(
The button in 2017 is greyed out and it says I should upgrade my license to use this feature, but doesn't the license INCLUDE this add-on? I was living under the impression that it did. If it doesn't include it, can I use the add-on I already got with Studio 2009 in Studio 2017?
Thanks in advance, looking fwd to your answer (a quick reply would be immensely appreciated, as I have a client waiting for an answer :D)
Cheers,
Cristina

Here's a screenshot of the greyed out button and the message:

If you can create your Autosuggest dictionary in Trados 2009 using your add-on with your own TMs, I don't see any reason you can't use the same dictionaries in T. 2017. I assume they are all bpm files.
Once they have been created, just use them in Trados 2017 by uploading them under the specific language pair.
Of course, merging the accounts is a good idea, but will not make any difference in this case.
HTH,
Sandra

Thanks for the suggestion, Stepan, just did that, hopefully they'll reply quickly :)

Also thanks for the 2009 workaround, Sandra&Kenneth, now why didn't I think of that :))) I'll have to re-install 2009 for this, but it's worth it considering the size of the project... I'll ask about merging the accounts as well, I hope that works out, the way I see it that would actually be the simplest solution.

Thanks again for your suggestions, guys, happy translating! :)
