Definitely, there is. I always start my work with confirming and locking all untranslatable stuff like numbers, dates, serial / tag id numbers, regular expressions etc. I only need them confirmed but not written in TM. [/quote]

I agree, if you want to do this, there's a need for this. Still, I don't quite get why you think these extra steps are worth your while. Is it for fear of getting to big a TM? What harm does it do if your TM contains a segment pair with a correct source and target that will be inserted automatically as a 100% match?

I'm genuinely interested. Maybe I should change my process as well.

For example, you have segments like these:
Segment 1: 12 х 33mm
Segment 2: 11 х 341mm
Segment 3: 120 х 7890mm
...
Segment 2000: 20 х 78mm

Trados will never suggest a correct next translation, once having translated the first instance, into Russian because there must be a non-breakable space between the number and the unit of measurement in Russian. Therefore, the value of those segments [for TM/Concordance purposes] is zero. You will have to correct 2000 segments by hand. Replacing English 'mm' with Russian ' мм' will be more efficient in this case.
And, as far as the TM value is null, adding such segments means just wasting TM entries. Do you know, by the way, that GroupShare TMs are limited in number of TUs. That is adding useless entries means extra useless costs for SDL clients. But even if you are just a freelance translator, hardly you need clogging your TM with information you cannot re-use.

In addition to the above-mentioned units of measurement, there may be partially translated or even mixed slashed (source/target) segments that you need just copy and paste without storing (becasue of their useless nature again).

Another example: dates like 09-Aug-2019 (must be 09.08.2019 in Russian). When you work with project schedule translations you may have hundreds of such dates. Here again it would be much easier to replace -Mon- 12 times than confirm each next instance.

I have just bought a new laptop computer: a Lenovo Thinkpad L580. I have installed Studio 2019 SR2.

Normally, the key combination Fn+Left is equivalent to pressing the Home key, while Fn+Right is equivalent to pressing the End key. Naturally, these are two combinations I use a lot when editing text. But, in Studio, every time I press the Fn key, the "Create Return Package" dialog comes up.

I checked and there is no keyboard shortcut assigned to this action, so I can't think of a way to stop this behaviour.

Can anyone replicate this? Are there any known workarounds or fixes?

As I said, Fn+Left is equivalent to Home, and Fn+Right is equivalent to End. Fn by itself does nothing, obviously: it is a modifier key. Only in Trados Studio it works as if it were a normal key.

The purpose of locking is to avoid any changes after locking. How can you confirm them then? No, you can't. Unless you unlock it.

I think we're at cross-purposes: somewhere in ProZ or SDL, I've seen a reference to a corrupt template, namely the re-usable "model" project file. In any case, it would be advisable to consult the "SDL Community" page, before contracting any expense: [url removed]

you are right, I shouldn't have said "confirm". What I meant is that you can go to the next segment with CTRL+Enter.

Hi! I got the same problem as so many times described with earlier versions. I work with Trados Studio 2019. Everything was working fine until, yesterday, I started having this problem:

- I translate my segment
- I confirm my segment (either with the CRTL+ENTER shortcut or by manually selecting the command with the mouse)
- Trados starts confirming the segment (I got the message "Generating preview" on the left corner)
- Everything freezes and I have to kill Trados

I tried already so many things described in this forum (f.inst. new shortcuts for the preview functions), but nothing works. I also installed SP2, tried to repair the program etc.

This is so annoying. Every second year I buy a new version of Trados hoping for a better functionality, and it's just as annoying as Windows. Crashing all the time. No problems fixed, nearly useless new features. It's a shame! As soon as someone creates a professional translation tool for Apple (which is compatible with all the Trados/MemoQ files I got from my clients) I will switch.

Hi Annette
there are some very good CAT tools for the Mac and not necessarily online tools. A lot of us professional translators use these professional tools.

You can already try CafeTran Espresso 10 Croissant, which can do everything with existing SDLPPX packages that Studio can do, except for one thing: process tracked changes. (This hasn't been implemented until now.)

Hi Annette
see Hans's answer, Cafetran is definitely a great tool to use on a Mac. Then there is Swordfish which can process sdlxliff files (no sdlppx though) and Wordfast Pro 5 which can process sdlppx files but cannot (yet) export return packages, only sdlxliff files. If you are not afraid of a fairly steep learning curve I'd suggest Cafetran ( [url removed] ) and a lifetime licence is definitely affordable, Igor's support is great and you can find all the help you need on [url removed]

I confirm that by assigning a keyboard shortcut to "Create Return Package" I can now press the Fn key and nothing will happen, as expected and desired.
