I have Mac and use parallel and word but do not seem to be able to import word, pdf, brochures etc. onto Trados. Can anyone help with this?

Dear All,

1. I have a unicode .txt file with tab delimited terms in Bulgarian and English. Naturally, the contents of the file look like this:

"максимум 15 дни""or a period of time not longer than 15 days"
"трудов стаж""length of service"
"езависимо от стажа""regardless of their length of service"
"съкращение в щата""personnel downsizing"
"съпруг""spouse"

2. I used SDL MultiTerm 2017 Convert to convert the .txt to the required .mtf file for MultiTerm import.
3. I created a new termbase with MultiTerm 2017.
4. When trying to import the .mtf file into the newly created termbase with the following options:

Import definition name: Default import definition
Termbase name: DEVNYA CEMENT
Import file: C:\Users\User\Desktop\TRANSP\déjà vu x 3 TM Export\*.mtf.xml
Import log file: C:\Users\User\Desktop\TRANSP\déjà vu x 3 TM Export\*.mtf.log
Exclusion file:
Allow over-complete entries: false
Allow incomplete entries: true
Ignore sub-languages: true
Full reorganization: true
Import Options:
Import all entries: Add import entry as new

I can only import about 4% of the terms and the log file contains the following error:

Fatal Error at (file C:\Users\User\Desktop\TRANSP\déjà vu x 3 TM Export\*.mtf.xml, line 3, column 143246): Invalid character (Unicode: 0x19)

5. My question is: how can I locate the invalid character defined as Unicode: 0x19, so that I can delete it?

Hello,
I'm trying to find a way to get source uppercase terms into the target segment without having to re-write them, as they don't need to be translated.

I've enabled the fragment/autosuggest features and I hoped this could enabled it, but I don't get it.

As to the fragment matches, do you get it? I don't understand why certain words recurring many times in the TM/file are not proposed in autosuggest.

Do I need to implement something in particular? I've ticked both features Fragments and Autosuggest in the Options.

Hello!

If I enter a simple command:

Wrong form:wor
Correct form:word

I get an error if I type wor and explanation that a correct form is word.

However, if I add regex signs to my command, a proposition of a correct form disappears.

Example

Wrong form:(W|w)or
correct form:(W|w)ord

Is there any way to get a correct form proposition if I use regex signs?

Ekaterina, thank you for your help.
I was looking for something included within Trados, or a type of template style I could set up to make it more systematic but your solution will definitely do.

I selected the text not to be translated - no need to save it as a doc, it works as a rtf - and used Ctr + shift + H to hide the text, translated the text, saved it and unhide the text.
Even better, I used the TransTools add-in, that does Hide / Unhide Text: hide specific portions of documents before importing them into CAT tools (for translating parts of a document), and which can be found at [url removed]

No, as far as I know, there is nothing inside Studio that would do the trick. This is because when you load the file for translation a bilingual file is created and you cannot make changes to it. So you have to prepare it in advance. There are some tricks for Excel files but that is another story. I am glad hiding works also in .rtf files. And yes, TransTools is a wonderful plugin :)

Dear friends, after the latest upgrade of Trados Studio, Add New Term and Quick Add New Term functions perform unproperly in such a manner.

After the source and translation terms have been selected in the source and target segments, as usual

pressing Add New Term or Quick Add New Term invokes Termbase Viewer with only one term entered:

I have a project in which the source is not automatically copied to target column when no translation is found, despite the setting in Tools > Options. This project has been created from a PPX package. In all other projects it works as usual. What can cause this behavior?

and thats me.
I know SDL treats translators as consumers but there must be a quick way without using their premium versions to set up a server to serve up a memory which after all is just a plain text file.

I did mention without the premium SDL solution.
Will probably try my luck with MemoQ- its the future tool of choice.

Hi all,
Since I installed SR1, Trados either hangs or gets extremely slow. Memories are not recognized, original text is inserted instead of memory text, even if I correct the translation manually, the program fills in the original again. I've been using Trados for years on my mac with Parallels and never have experienced such problems. I wish I could return to the version before SR1.
Fortunately an older Studio 2015 version still works.

My PC froze unexpectedly, had to do a hard reboot. Trados wasn't open at the time.

On restarting and trying to open Studio, I had to load it again. The project I was working on was not shown, and when I try to open it from the saved folder using the Open Project command I get the the message:

"An error occured whilst trying to determine the file version"

This also occurs on a second computer.

Running SDL Trados Studio 2014 Freelance SP2 - 11.2.4435.12. Windows 10

I have noticed lately that the wrench symbol for segments repaired using the upLIFT match repair does not appear any more in the middle column. This is rather confusing. Does anybody know why it happened, and more important – how to get it back?
