Trados 2011: Is it possible to create bilingual files for external review with only Word 2003?

Hello.

I have a very obsolete Windows XP system with Trados 2011 and only MS Office 2003 available. Actually, this is an emulation of Windows system on a host running Linux. It has rather limiting resources, and normally I do not use Windows, just for Trados or so.
Recently I encountered a problem of issuing a bilingual file after translation for an external review. I know that there is a standard batch workflow to do this in Trados 2011 and possibly higher. In my case the corresponding task can be launched and does create the requested file .review.docx, but this file is empty. Apparently this is due to MS Office 2010 lacking on the system. The Trados documentation tacitly suggests creating only .docx bilinguals, and I see no other options in the settings of the batch task in the program.

Is it possible to handle this task either for Word 2003 (.doc), or making use of Libreoffice, which can understand .docx?

Hi Serge,

Trados 2011 definitely can export bilingual files for review using Office 2003. I do that regularly. You have to install Microsoft's addons for working with the new Office formats.

However, if there are problems importing the files back, chances are you won't be able to correct the file using Office 2003—you'll have to ask the client to do that. In fact, this is the reason why I'm finally going to buy a newer (but not much newer) Office version.

Check Out Required

Hi,

My client sent me 115 .sdlalign files that I need to update with the 1,577 changes made by their client and then create a TM out of it.

Given that
1) there is no search function in the alignment window, and
2) it is impossible to open all 115 .sdlalign files in just one tab

I decided to create a project instead of cycling through all 115 files to find each of these 1,577 changes individually without a search function :)

What I have done so far:

- checked all the .sdlalign files to make sure the alignment was okay
- exported the .sdlalign files to .sdlxliff format
- created a project using these .sdlxliff files

However, I get three errors when opening these files. They are:

- Check Out Required - To modify this document, you must check it out.
- An unexpected error occurred while activating the document view.
- The path is not of a legal form.

The only solutions I found for the "Check Out Required" error were for XML files, but I'm using sdlxliff files so it does not apply.

Does anyone have some light to shed on this?

Thanks in advance.

Can anybody explain why the progress indicator in the Studio Files view behaves so strangely? First it shows 60 % and an orange bar, in the middle of the work after saving it said 89 % and showed a green bar, but after finishing again 60 % and again orange.

I regretably cannot explain the behaviour, but it seems in general that if you run a word count, it fixes that issue.

Nor does a translation count.

I have never had your problem, as far as I remember, but updating the memories helps occasionally when I have merged segments and the word count does not match.

Hello,

I have the run pre-translation of the same project (same files and same TM) in both Studio 2014 and Studio 2017 obtaining different results for the pre-translation of numbers:

- 100% match in Studio 2014
- 99% match in Studio 2017

I haven't been able to find a setting in the options to obtain the same results in Studio 2017.

Thank you

SDL has changed things so that if there are more than 1 100% hit in the TM, this is indicated with a 99% match. I suspect this is the case also for your case.

In a Studio project, is it possible to open all files in several different folders at the same time?

I usually do this when I have completed a project that I open all files and make changes according to notes I've been taking during the course of the translation. But now I have many different sub-folders, each containing some of the project files (SDLXLIFF files). It doesn't work to CTRL + click on the files in each folder either.

Getting Error While Adding Terms After Installing SDL Trados Studio 2017

Hi everybody,

Recently I installed SDL Trados Studio 2017 while I was using SDL Trados Studio 2014. Right after the installation of 2017 version, I got errors when adding terms through Trados Studio 2014 interface. I thought this will be disappeared when I would migrate to the full version of SDL Trados Studio 2017.

And now I get a license for SDL Trados Studio 2017, and unfortunately the issue is still there. The problem I face is that when I was trying to add a term through SDL Trados Studio 2017 interface, I get the following error:

"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

which I believe comes from Microsoft database system. On the other hand, the term is added to the termbase, but I cannot make edits on the term through Studio and I get the same error each and every time.

Could you help me what could be the reason?

Best regards,

Hamid Aydin

This is an old post, however it still does appear first in Google Search when searching for a way to delete duplicates from a MultiTerm.
Since SDL MultiTerm 2017 does not (yet and up to this day!) offer this functionality in a simple way, I am sharing this lovely solution:

Yep, after getting license for SDL Trados Studio, I also installed SDL Multiterm 2017, and updated both applications.

Upgrading between SDL Trados products have always been a nightmare for users, and nothing changed with SDL Trados Studio 2017.

Hello Roy,

Thank you for your comment.

I checked the TM and there is actually no 100% for "5,000" but the closest hit is "5000".
It looks like Studio 2014 is able to "auto repair" the number and enter it as a 100%.

Studio 2017 slows down entire computer

I have recently started using Studio 2017, although I upgraded a while ago. I did not have any problems to start with but now, for the last three weeks, I have mostly been unable to use Studio 2017 because it takes hours to prepare a project, even if it contains less than a 1000 words, and even if it is a standalone document, Studio uses 99% of CPU, so absolutely all fans are whizzing and nothing can be used on the computer. The thing is, though, I have a four core laptop with 16 GB RAM. The machine is more than capable of dealing with Studio and the OS was reinstalled only two months ago, so it should still work like a charm... which it does, as long as Studio 2017 is not open. 2014 works fine, 2015 seems to be on the slow side sometimes, but 2017 is an off the charts nightmare.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Does anyone else have a problem with the selected tab being unselected every.single.time a segment is confirmed? Whenever I confirm a segment, the Home tab is unselected. Sometimes it goes to another tab, and sometimes no tab is selected. This is the most annoying bug I have experienced in recent memory.

You can sometimes inadvertently change the selectd tab on the ribbon just by moving the mouse.

Somehow the ribbon had been minimized. Expanding it has fixed the issue, but the tab does often switch inadvertently when the mouse is moved. That's annoying, too, but not nearly as annoying as when the ribbon is minimized.
