There are certainly 1 or more bugs in the sdltrados_2011 editor here WRT termbase handling and/or display. BTW I did pure QA for the last 6 years of my software career, so I'm talking as a pro. Wouldn't it be nice if a trados product guy sees this message and files a bug report for me with the following info.
Somehow i got the termbase associated with the project and file.
It seemed like i had to close and reopen, but the help did not say i had to do that.
It looks like i can dynamically open a new translation memory and use it in an open project, but I *think* termbase DBs don't work that way, ie. my experience seemed to be that i could add in the dialogues but it still does not dynamically get opened until i close and reopen the file. I very suspicious of why this was not working for me, but it seems like maybe it is opening dynamically now, so no idea what was going on but I'm past the problem so to me it's moot unless i see it again.
BUT, for certain what i discovered next is a bug.
This is the bug:
I have a file from proj1 open in the editor. This one does have the termbase open and i can do term recognition.
Now i create a new project, proj2. I don't set any termbase.
I go back to edit the file from proj1. Now the term recognition shows me recognized terms, and i get new recognized terms when i move to a new segment. BUT,
*this is certainly a bug* => in that same term recognition window, where i am getting recognitions, when i click on the DB icon, it shows that I don't have any.
It's empty.
CERTAINLY, here I am getting an inconsistent view: the recognition is working based on the termDB's open on proj1, BUT I'm being shown the DBs for proj2 which does not have any DBs. This is crazy behavior; how can this be conforming to any coherent user model? I mean the results are coming, but when i click on the DB icon to confirm where they are coming from, it shows me DB from a different project than I'm editing. No way is this right.
This bug probably has not been caught because normally one sets up the default project profile to always use the termDBs and some default TMs, so it's probably rare to be creating new projects without adding the DBs when the project is created. I'm a virgin so i didn't do that and i've been adding in the DBs afterwards.
