I'm not sure if you ever figured out the answer to your question, but maybe this will help. We have a lot of IDML/INDD projects that are translated in Studio. One of the things that I have found that is helpful is to make sure that you are able to see the formatting tags when you are translating. When you are in the Editor View of Studio, go to Format | Tag Display Mode | Full Tag Text.
Another option is, Go to Tools | Options. This will bring up a window, which will show you the different things you can edit. If you click ON the word 'Editor' in the left pane, it should show you some options in the right side. Just below the middle, you will see an option 'Formatting display style". I have mine set to 'Show all formatting and tags'. This SHOULD allow you to be able to at least SEE the tags and if you need to move them around as your language rules dictate, you should be able to do this.
One note, if you are IN a project and change this, it may not take affect immediately. I would suggest making the change (if you want to see it on all projects) in the Home view of Studio and go to Tools | Options, without any files open. We have had teams that have also had to make the change, close Studio, open Studio back up, double check the change is made and THEN open the file in the Editor view.
