In Studio 2014, when autopropagating figures with the % and º (degree) symbol, and with "cm" and "m" (centimeters and meters).
I wonder if there is any solution to this?

I have had Studio 2015 since it came out and have not been able to run it yet.

Most of the time I get a "sequence contains no matching element" error, after which I resort back to 2014 to do my work.

Disabling all term bases "resolves" the error message, but I agree with an earlier comment that it is not a solution to not have access to term bases.

If it has to do with Java, I thought Studio was not dependent on Java anymore?
How do I resolve the issue?

Glad to report that the most recent version 12.0.4961.2 resolved this issue and I am finally working "in 2015"!

Trados 2015: Problems importing comments from Excel file

Hi,

I have an Excel export from LEAF with about 43 columns. For translation I need columns 3 (Source), 4 (Target) and 5 (Comments for translator).

I save the file as tab delimited txt file (CSV does not work as Trados throws errors when adding the file) and I can convert file to sdlxliff without any problems but the comments do not show up at all when opening the file for translation, although I ticked the comments option under format of tab delimited text under File types.

Anyone got a hint what I possibly missed?

Thanks for the help,
Pascal

I understand the point of view of colleagues who criticise the way Studio was designed as regards the marking of machine translated segments. It can look like SDL takes good care of the agencies while forcing things on translators. On this other hand, if one knows how to use machine translation in an efficient way and without compromising on quality, I can see no reason why the client's knowing about the use of MT would create a problem in the relationship with them. In case the client asks, the translator can have a carefully worded message at hand, where he/she explains honestly how machine translation helps him/her to be more efficient.

I think we sometimes need to put ourselves in a client's shoes. When a professional tries to hide his ways of working to the client, there is a high risk trust will be broken. And people will start believing the marketing exaggerations that for-profit organisations sometimes use, without even wanting to hear the explanations from the professionals. Unfortunately, SDL is among the companies that convey exaggerated claims to the public. First, there was "You'll never have to translate the same sentence again" (any translator knows this is not true for all identical sentences, and for others it is only true for a limited time; and sometimes, in order to establish whether a sentence can stay the same or not, it can take some time).

The latest marketing exaggeration from SDL is that the machine translation they provide can double productivity: . I know of a study that showed that, in certain conditions, a productivity increase of 25% can be obtained. To me, at the current stage of MT, 100% increase seems impossible. I'd be curious to know whether their is any independent study to support that claim.

I was able to search for an unbalanced, escaped left parenthesis character i.e. \( without a problem in a regex search. Was not able to test square brackets, because there weren't any in my text, but I would not expect any problems either.
ksanders wrote:

Also in Find/Replace:

When using regular expressions, it is impossible to search (i.e. the "Find Next" button is greyed out) when the search string has unbalanced parentheses or square brackets, which makes sense.

However, balancing parens/brackets is also enforced in this way when NOT using regular expressions, so it is impossible to search (or find/replace) on strings like "Sample text (". This seems unnecessary and can sometimes limit searches that we might want to do.

In theory, even a regex expression should not check for the balancing of escaped parens/brackets, e.g. \( or \[.

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on a subtitling project with multiple files that were apparently created with SubRip.

Although I can open each file individually, I cannot open them all at once: autopropagate doesn't work which is a problem since the project has lots of repetitions.

I downloaded the SubRip file type on OpenExchange but, even after restarting Trados and my computer multiple times, the problem is still the same.

Here is the situation : when I try to open all the files together, an error appears:

***
Une erreur inattendue s'est produite lors de l'activation de l'affichage du document.

System.NullReferenceException, mscorlib, Version= [IP removed] , Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089

Sdl.TranslationStudio.Editor

- [phone removed]

***

When I close this error, another one appears :"La référence d'objet n'est pas définie à une instance d'un objet". (I tried the solution provided by SDL for this one, it doesn't work)

Then, when I open an individual file, nothing bad happens but a message appears in the "Messages" tab in the TM window: "Ce fichier a été créé à l'aide d'une définition de type de fichier qui n'existe pas sur votre système (SubRip v [IP removed] ). Les fonctionnalités suivantes seront restreintes...".

Let me add that the file type I installed earlier appears in the parameters and is activated (box ticked). I also tried to install it on my other computer with the same Trados version, the problem is the same.

Do you have an idea how to solve this?

Thanks for your help!

Post title: Possible solution

I have had the same problem, and discovered that the setting for Auto-substitution was that the space should be removed. Go to

File – Options – Language Pairs – (language combination) - Translation Memory and Automated Translation – Auto-substitution

Then choose the setting you want.

I had to add English-Norwegian, Swedish-Norwegian and Danish-Norwegian, after which I was able to choose the setting for Auto-substiution that I wanted.

I find it strange that these language combinations were not added at the time of installation, since I had to come up with 5 languages at the time.

Hope the above helps.

Roy

I have added J. S., J., S., and even J. S. Bach to the abbreviation list under Settings in the TM view and even tried to add it to a new Language Resource Template (VERY confusing) and Trados still splits J. S. Bach into three segments. What is happening?
Or alternatively create a new TM with nothing in it, a default. Test with that only and if it doesn't work add the abbreviations to that.

If it still fails please confirm that you have added the TM before you open the file? But if you can send me your TM so I can test with whatever you have set up you can send it to here:

Indeed, there in the option you mention was the setting I needed to change.
Surely autopropagation will work correctly next time.
