Paul, thanks for that, it was educational.

The only thing I wasn't sure about was the conclusion! No company has unlimited resources, so if it can be done by users, so much the better. It could be years, literally, before such a function is added given the existence of competing requests for other users.

I really need to understand the whole XML ecosystem a bit better than I do. Time to go back and re-read the XML Visual Quickstart Guide; perhaps I'll understand it better this time...

Hi Walter,

Thanks for getting back to me!
I think you are on the right track, the spellchecker works only on the Hunspell option otherwise it does not work and I have realised today that although I have office available it does not actually show in the Virtual Machine program list.
I thought the issue was that I am using Office 365.
However, SDL said that even though Office 365 might have some issues the "confirm segments" function should not have any problem.
But if I understand correctly from what you say, I need to make sure Office is installed correctly on Windows.

I will look into this properly and will let you know if I sorted it.

Many thanks :-)

Bart

Can you do a spell-checking for Dutch in MS Word ? This is required if you want to spell-check Dutch content.

The languages that you chose when installing Studio have nothing to do with the Spellchecker because Studio does the spell-checking in the background in MS Word.

By default, when you install Word, you usually get only one or two languages installed for the spellchecker. This could mean, that depending on your version of MS Word, you don't have the spellchecker files for Dutch.

Please check this and if they are missing, you'll need to download them from the Microsoft site.

Hi Walter,

I had proceeded as you said but I got many error messages, eg. Segmented paragraph structure is invalid. Structure of marks in paragraph :'{0>

Then I saved these as .txt files and tried again and this time the alignment worked very fast!

Thanks for your help!

Problems with Studio 2014 Spell Checker | Spell checker in MS Office not installed, but Dutch (Netherlands) does work in Studio

Thanks for both replies,

I do not have the Dutch spell checker installed in Office. I bought this PC in Spain, with Office already installed. The only thing I did was buying the licence for Office. That is another problem I was trying to solve.

On the other hand, although Dutch (BE) and Dutch (NL) are both not installed in Office, it IS possible to do a spell check for Dutch (NL) in Studio, but NOT for Dutch (BE).

Thanks in advance,

Bart

Actually, when I checked the alignment now more carefully, most of the text is not there, only some titles which seem to be correctly aligned. Is it supposed to work with txt files, too?
Strange that I could not add the word files, though, it would have been much easier.

Hi Shannon,

Right now I have several very large termbases activated, and terms seem to be listed in order of appearance in text. Then when some word comes up in several termbases, the hits are grouped by termbase, in the order of the termbases defined in project settings.

I found your email because I wondered about the sort order, and it was by reading your message that I realized they are in order of appearance in text :)

I have Studio 2014 SP2.

... as we have a dedicated developer, dedicated not just because he is focused on the OpenExchange but he really is dedicated! The toolkit was originally built to allow what you need but the original developer had some problems with this and as I had limited budget at the time I had to cut a few things to get a useful working application. This was one of the things I cut.

So we could look at this again, but before we do I'd like to understand the usecases properly so we don't try and provide an overengineered solution when we don't need to. Might be more feasible and quick.

Of course don't let that stop you!! The more developers the better and the APIs are all very open and accessible. You can ask questions in here if you're interested:

The default is the second one (longest first) as thius was the overwhelming feedback we had. So if you prefer alphabetically then just select that one.

Hi Walter,

As you said, Office was not installed on Windows but on Mac only and therefore Trados would not see it.
It seems fine for now!!

Thanks!!

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your feedback. I would've never expected to look in the AutoSuggest options for something related to MultiTerm (I would think that they're not related at all, but maybe I'm mistaken?).

The option selected was indeed the default one (longest suggestions first). After I chose "sort suggestions alphabetically", terms were listed in the order of appearance in the text, not alphabetically. But I'm ok with that too!

I just think it's interesting that there still seems to be a hitch/bug in the system, that terms still can't be sorted alphabetically (if someone really wanted it that way).

I'm fine with the order of appearance in the text (even if that's not what was intended for that option :-) ).

Thanks for the tip!

Shannon

... now I reflect on it earlier in the day!

These options really control how the results are presented as autosuggestions and in reality this doesn't affect the term recognition. Apologies for that.

I don't recall how 2009 used to present these results in the early days but I'll see if I can track back to where any change was made. I'm also not aware of a setting to change this order in the term recognition window, but it won't be the first time I was wrong!

I'll try and post back next week sometime if I discover something useful to help with this.

Hi everyone,
I optimized the OCR settings by choosing the primary language and the clearScan mode. The result was good. German letters with umlaut like ä, ö and so one were appearing right. Here and there some spell mistakes but the correction was fast and last not least I was able to work with trados.

Studio 2011 only goes manually

I must have hit a button somewhere without realising it, but suddenly I translated a segment, confirmed, and Studio didn't move down from the segment. Then I noticed that all remaining segments are ticked as 100%, even though they're still blank because I haven't got that far yet. When I export, the English version has all the gaps where text is meant to be, apart from some pre-populated repetitions. I have to move down manually each time, which is annoying, although each time I exit the translated Word document does reflect how far I've translated, so it still translates OK.

Any ideas?

Post title: Reason why I'd like to filter by segments with tags

Hi Walter,

Thanks a lot for your answer.

After finishing the translation of a very large website (tens of thousands of words), I've realised that I didn't handle the tags quite well. I worked using the "Partial Tag Text" view, and this prevented me from seeing exactly what each tag was meant for. So now I'd like to check all segments that contain tags, so that I can make sure they are right. Since the files contain so many other segments that don't contain tags, it would make things much easier if I could see only the ones that do.

Again, thanks a lot for taking the time to answer!

Hello guys,

I am getting desperate with a situation here: I need to do an English-Spanish glossary for my Masters, and I need to add the links I am getting the Target Term from. For that, I made a whole new cell called "TT from" in Excel. However, when converting the file into MultiTerm, this cell never ever appears. What can be happening? How can I solve it?

Cheers

Post title: Try that later

Hi Emma,

Thanks - I'll try that later when I finish this morning session. I'm using an online TM and a static TM running together, but I have a few files to do with this job, all quite similar, and I started two of the others to see if the same thing would happen, and it doesn't. It picks up the segments already in the TM, and rolls down as usual, so it can't be anything to do with the general setup. So I'm going to do the other files first, and then presumably everything will fall in with the problem file at the end.
