I know from experience that Studio 2011 didn't like Word 2013. If you opened the exported file there and tried to import it back into Trados, then look no further:

Post title: Using Word 2010

Hello Mark,

thanks for your reply! I'm afraid this can't be the problem. I am using Word 2010, as is the team working with these translations: my translation colleague and the proofreader. So it ought to be something else... I have exported and imported more than a dozen files the last weeks and this problem comes very sudden and unexpected. Very strange.

Best,

Anna

I just got Trados Studio 2014, but my client still uses Trados 2007. When I sent them my completed files, they were not able to review them (they asked for clean and unclean, but I can only send them clean). My exported TM doesn't even work for them, because the segmenetation is different. When I try to use the SDL TTX it! tool, I get an error message that says "Settings file invalid or not found".. any ideas? I just bought this software and am very frustrated!
Thanks.

I am not the biggest expert in the field, but for as far I know you can convert from 2007 to Studio (did it myself), but not the other way around.

If your client works with Trados 2007, I would suggest you do the same.

I already spent the money on Studio 2014 (didn't have any Trados before), and I'm working on a Windows 8 computer, does Trados 2007 even run in Windows 8? I was told I might have problems, even if they could provide me with the Trados 2007.

Gave up after the third import attempt. I could see nothing wrong with Segment 1.
In the end, I applied the changes manually, as I didn't care to waste any more time on that issue.

It would be interesting to know why this happens.

hi, if you go to the Welcome tab in Studio 2014, you will find the Open-exchange app SDL Legit. this app has the possibility of creating bilingual Trados 7-like word docs using a .sdlxliff file.
do give it a try, it should work.
there are also other apps on Open-exchange that will let you convert Studio TMs in Trados 7 TMs.

good luck!

This shouldn't be a problem. Go to SDL Open Exchange, download LegIt and convert your file to bilingual doc or ttx.

By the way, Trados 2007 will run in Win 8. You need to make sure your Office version is 32-bit. But I wouldn't recommend going that way. You made the right decision to get Studio 2014.

I think that the tool you would need is "SDL Legit"

I haven't tried it but it seems to do what you need.

There is also an article about it in Paul Filkin's blog:

I did email you with your details based on the email we have on record, and the one in your ProZ account but I am getting a delivery failure message from your server.

Perhaps you can drop me an email at [email removed] and I can make sure we have the correct details.

Thank you

... is that the word document is emailed out, and then the recipient opens it directly from Outlook as opposed to saving it to the hard drive first. I have no idea why this causes a problem, but it does seem to. Perhaps it’s worth checking the process? It won't help this time around as you already have the file. So the workaround might be to create a new export, copy the contents of the target column in the one that was reviewed, then paste it into your new review document. Now import the new one.

That may help.

Paul

as a PM. I can confirm that Paul's workaround does work.

There are a few things that can cause this problem.
1. The proofreader has opened the file in Word 2003 or older. Doing so "breaks" the file structure that is necessary for the Import to work. (I know you said that your proofreader used 2010, but this could help others.
2. The proofreader has removed file properties by "inspecting" the Word file. Many linguists do this in order to remove their names from files, so it happened a lot.

Hi, Paul,

It's very interesting that I still haven't received an answer to my request for help. Perhaps because I haven't spent another small heap of my hard-earned money on their support program. Which suggests that they build problems into their programs, or just let them there so that people should buy into their support programs ... a real money-machine, which wouldn't make half the money it does if their programmes ran well and not in chunks but in an integrated whole. I think I'll get slowly more and more dissatisfied with SDL Trados. Is there a money-back guarantee? Or is there a chance that it'll work satisfactorily later? From the list of problem pages there, probably not much ... Is there a better program where the makers don't rip us off? Sorry, I know you're a member of Trados Support Team, yet one wonders.

Dear colleagues,

I'm looking for a way to completely collapse the tree shown on the left hand side of the Editor view in Studio 2014 easily and quickly, so that it shows only the individual files opened. I want to be able to navigate quickly between multiple files opened by clicking on them in the tree. I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Kind regards,
Erik

Post title: Aligning documents

While in the process of creating a new TM by aligning two documents I have accidentally marked a TU for deletion. By doing so I have found that it cannot be unmarked !? :(

Moreover, from a total of 5 pages only 1.5 pages were aligned. What happened with the rest of the text?

PS: I learned that in the TM View Studio displays only 50 TUs per page. Indeed, only 50 TUs are displayed. However, the left-right arrows are grey and pressing them returns no additional pages.
