I had exacly the same issue.

I figured out that a new segmentation rule was the cause. I used .- as break characters in my new rule, and all abbreviations stopped working. I removed this rule, and it worked fine. But I needed the rule.

I figured it out like this: the break character is - and I specified \. (a dot) as 'before break'. This way both my rule and abbreviations work fine.

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble will trying to finalize a project and I need your help.

It is a package with a single file that I have already translated. I want to "finalize" the file and create the "Return package", so I do the following: in the project view, I go to Batch Tasks > Finalize >Finish. The TM updates normally, but with "Generate target translations" I receive a message that says "Source file not found".

What can be the problem ? How can I generate my target translation? I need to create a "Return package" asap andI don't know what to do.

I'd say Windows cleaned your temporary files while Studio (the file) was open. You cannot create the target file, but you can still create the return package (right-click the file or project and in the dropdown you'll see create return package, not sure about the wording, my Studio is set to German, but it is there.)

Provided the file isn't any of those monster with a lot of costraints or tags, you can import the source file separately, let the TM do its job and then click on File -> Save target file (or Save as target file... again, I'm not sure about how the wording could be in English). If it is one of those files, well you can still do it, but it'd take a while to reach the end of the file.

Of course, you could re-import the project, but this is something I am always reluctant to, even if I have my local TMs for each client and I ought to be sure my TM would do its magic.

PS deactivate that automated cleaning, if you use Win10 it might take a couple of times before it stops doing it, I did so as soon as I install Win10, but somehow I wasn't specific enough for the sys, 'cause it did this to me - to my horror - three days ago, exactly when I had one of those files I'd never want to work on a second time... but I had to.

I would also like to change the text in the Tag.

It is a simple case, it is a reference to a Figure and it says Figura 1 (Spanish) I need that my translation into English says Figure 1. And once I save the file as translated, I can certainly change the text in Word and the reference stays.

Of course I could change all those references in the original document or in the translated document in Word, but it is a 108 page report and has lots of figures. It will be time consuming.

I hope there is an answer to this.

Wow. I honestly don't remember writing this post.

At any rate, why not just use FIND and REPLACE in final Word Document. FIND Figura and replace with Figure...

My former language technology research group in the ADAPT Centre in Trinity College Dublin is currently carrying out a market research survey on the use of speech recognition and human transcription by professional translators here:

If you use Dragon Naturally Speaking or any other speech recognition software with a CAT tool or word processor it might be interesting as the idea is to provide a more accurate speech recognition system that has a range of features targeted at translators. These would include better tag support like commands to place tags, statistical tag placement and better transcription accuracy.

The idea to is to provide it as a service inside existing CAT tools like Trados Studio (a bit like MT) but before that can happen they need to build a picture of whether there is any demand.

If you translate into a language that Dragon does not support and other SR options are unsatisfactory (as they don't adapt to the text or the speaker) it is well worth taking part as the order in which new languages are developed will probably depend on the number of responses they get on the survey for that target language.

There is a short video to explain the concept and a short survey that takes about 5 mins on the site.

It closes soon so please do take 10 mins to look it if you are even vaguely interested in speech recognition or transcription.

A minimalist version would be appreciated with the following features:

1) Split text into segments and align side by side.

2) Save to / retrieve from TM.

That's it. Who needs all those frills, especially if the result is that the application crashes half a dozen times a day?

Bonjour,
ce matin ma traduction sur Trados Studio 2011 ne veut pas s'ouvrir. J'ai un message d'erreur qui dit en résumé "failed to load project from "c: users/HP etc...there is an error in XML document (18...etc... Hier tout a bien fonctionné sans problème.

Hello,
I have an error message preventing me from opening my translation file with Trados Studio 2011 this morning. Since yesterday evening everything worked fine. I saved the file as usual on the desktop.
The error message is "failed to load project from "C:/HP/desktop. There is an error in XML document etc..."
can someone help? do i have to import again the file and import the memory I saved to make everything works again?

In theory no, but the machine is chugging in certain situations.
It's being hit hard; the question is why.
It's only Studio 2017, not the latest version of Far Cry.
Fast CPU, fast SSD, 16GB - where's the bottleneck?

I don't, but given that the machine already has 16GB, and that the data for 4,000 segments with the associated data structures to hold and manipulate those segments should not take up more than a very small fraction of that, and given that Studio is not shown as using gigabytes of memory in task manager (about 21MB as I write, and a few hundred MB at most), it seems reasonable to assume that adding more memory is unlikely to help much. But I could be wrong.

It remind me how a friend of mine bought 2CD [i]Command'n'Conquer: Generals--Zero Hour[/i] and was disappointed his then-cut-edge P4 with an expensive nVidia graphics and 2GB overclocked RAM couldn't work smoothly. Of course, reading forums, changing to allegedly faster ATi video and AMD CPU, and buying even more memory did help, yet not with C'n'C. Every three-four years he upgraded a new up-to-the-minute PC and always nagged why his favorite game was *still* so lagging, whereas more demanding software ran flawlessly. Why, even nowadays the best i7/9 with several top videocards and plenty of ultra-fast memory/storage is no answer, because... it was just a poor (rough-and-ready) coding.

Moreover, not long ago my client working as a project manager among other things mentioned they got a lot of lucrative offers and could greatly improve their software, but there's no need for humble customers already can tolerate its drawbacks, why?

Shortly, for some specs a piece of software (and its settings) may appear a [i]wrong[/i] (neither best, nor optimal) option, so it's high time to consider ([b]1[/b]) another tool (competitors' offers) or ([b]2[/b]) better hardware--like an ULTRAbook. Or something else--just set real goals)

After your previous post, I tested my Trados 2015 with a nice, juicy SDLXLIFF file (80000 segments, 50 MB), while watching the memory and CPU usage in a program that allows one to see how much RAM and CPU a program is using at that moment. Although Trados had access to all of my cores, CPU usage never went above 30%, even if I increased the priority to near-realtime, and during tasks such as scrolling to the last segment, selecting all segments, and copying source=target for all segments (which took 15-20 minutes per task), the CPU usage typically stayed below 25%. RAM usage never went above 600 MB (I have 16 GB in total). I do have a slow-ish SSD but it takes Notepad just 2 seconds to load the 50 MB file completely, so that can't be the bottleneck. So... I wonder what this means... if I had a faster CPU and more RAM, will Trados still be slow?

Just yesterday I got a job worth a mere 9000 segments in Trados, and I'm already scheming.

What does it mean indeed. I'm guessing that it's some problem inherent to the way the application is designed or coded. It just never feels snappy, and it often feels turgid.

I think I've tried Terminotix before, but for one of the languages in my language pair (Portuguese), it gives out a lot of false positives, like verbs, adverbs, pronoums.

I might try it out again!
