Autosuggest and Autotext

Forum: SDL Trados support
Topic: Autosuggest and Autotext
Poster: Andrew052

I have just created a new autosuggest dictionary and I have never used autosuggest or autotext before.

I need to add phrases from the file I am translating, so that when I need to type in the same phrases they will be prompted by autosuggest or autotext.

For example, I have two segments:

Segment 1: The model adjustment procedure enables to derive an adjustment function
Segment 2: Model 1 enables to derive an adjustment function.

So, how do I add the phrase 'adjustment function" to the auto-suggest dictionary or auto-text? Are there any shortcuts to add phrase to augosuggest dictionary or auto-text? Is it possible to automatically add to the auto-suggest an approved segment after it has been approved? What can I do if I have a file that has 6 000 segments, but I want to add it to my autosuggest dictionary?

Are there any alternative for auto-prompting on the open exchange?

Thank you for your answers.

Out of the blue, Studio 2009 refuses to start so, as we've seen here many times before for this message, I delete the usual files via the usual routes:

First:

- BaseSettings.xml
- plugincache.xml
- UserSettings.xml

then:

Sdl.Enterprise.ServerConnectionManager.xml

and then:

sdl.projectapi.xml

and also:

Projects.xml

But still nothing, and back to the "not set to instance of an object" whining.

Any other fixes?

TIA,

Mervyn

First of all, thanks for your help.

Now, if it's not too much trouble, which sections would be translated exactly? Only the information in brackets after CDATA "IP Video Surveillance and Storage"?

Is there anything else?

Thanks again.

Two days have passed since I flagged this issue. Following Romain's thread, it looks like the issue is on SDL's side, so I would expect not to have to purchase SDL Service to solve it.
Could somebody from SDL get in touch with me to solve this annoying issue?

Hi Marco,

I have raised (in fact, Paul from SDL did it) a support case using the Solution Finder.

Click on "Solution Finder" at the top of the page.

Then select "Licencing problems", then "I use SDL Trados Studio / SDL Passolo - 2011 or 2014" and finally "I have to have my licence reset".

A support team member will contact you within a few days and the issue will be solved (well, at least it was my case).

I hope this could help you.

Have a nice weekend,
Romain

I am translating a 20K-segment file.

I need to go back from time to time to make some corrections to other segments. Afterwards, I need to scroll back to the segment being translated.

What is the fastest way to return the segment being translated?

If I ctrl+F something, I would then use "Ctrl+Z & Ctrl+Y" combintation to get back to the segment being translated. However, I can't do that since I have just made a correction in another segment.

Of course, ctrl+Enter would not make do, since, just to have fun I translate, 5000-6000, 1000-3000, [phone removed] 0))

I have translated a phrase, but I am not sure, whether it's the best translation. I have commented it to get back to that -- I will get back to it and with 99% probability pass the comment to the proof-reader.

Then I copies part of the segment from the TM to another matched segment with this comment.

How can add this comment to this new segment. How can I delete afterwards all the comments for this particular phrase?

(I make up two excel lists: one "find and replace" if I have decided to change a widely used phrase, and the second -- "confirmation by proof-reader required". Since, I have ca 30 comments (complete segments and individual phrases commented) per 500 segments, I am not sure that I want to put them in "confirmation by proof-reader required" list.)

We generated XLIFF files using the Studio 2014 XLIFF parser. The client could not import those files.

The root cause is that the generated XLIFF does not comply to the OASIS standard ( #mrk). The mrk-element in the XLIFF files has an attribute 'id'. This must be 'mid'.

The workaround is to do a global find/replace of '

Studio 2014: Problems opening target file after "saving file as" word file

Topic: Studio 2014: Problems opening target file after "saving file as" word file
Poster: Julia Jenner

Hi!

I'm translating a long pdf-file (70.000 words). I will have to hand in the translation to the customer as a word file. After I added comments to some target segments and used the "save target as" option, thus saving the file as a word file, an error message occurs when I try to open that word file.

It reads (more or less, I use a German version of Word 2010):

"The file 'bla bla bla' cannot be opened, because it's content causes problems."

Clicking on "Details", it says: "The file is damaged and cannot be opened."

Clicking "ok" informs me that: "Non-readable content was detected. Do you want to restore the content of the document? Click "yes" when you trust the file source."

I did click yes and found the target file as a word file, the comments were there, but empty.

I deleted the comments in Trados and then everything went fine. So it seems to be the comments! Why do they get lost during the conversion to word?

Any ideas how to save the comments when "saving target as"???

At some point, I converted the source pdf-document into a word file and used this as the source document for Trados, but this caused all kinds of wild things with page breaks etc., if I remember correctly.

Page breaks are also strange now, using the pdf file. This is a altogether different issue, I assume, and probably due to pdf-files being often problematic, right? Still, input would be most be welcome on this aswell!

PS. I am new to CAT tools, since I used to work mostly as a literary translator. So be gentle with specialist terms, thank you!!!

Julia

Use the shortcut to go to the next untranslated segment. I think it's Alt+Enter by default (unless I've customised this shortcut).

The following error occurs when saving the target file back to ttx.
(40007) Error reading TTX file: Expected end of tag 'Raw'

I've tried reprocessing the original ttx with the TM, and copy/pasting the last line from another ttx in notepad into the corrupted file.
No dice

I'll try Studio 2011 now to see if that works.

In the end I discovered the problem was caused by a comment in the source Word file, which caused problems with Studio 2014/2011 and TagEditor when converting back to Word.
I deleted the comment and managed to get a working target Word file.

[Edited at 2014-02-18 09:45 GMT]
I have spent a few hours yesterday and today exploring that error message from Tageditor 8, because I want to use Studio 2014 for translating ttx files. After translating a short TTX file in Studio 2014 - import of HTML ini file unsuccessful, don't know why - and saving back to ttx, Tageditor refuses to load the file giving this error message.

Browsed the SDL knowledge base and google results for this error. No solution in sight. Tried the automatic unpairing option to no avail.

Now the surprising thing is that not the "missing" (not true) tag is the cause for this error, but missing DF tags a couple of HTML tags before that. I could discover this by loading the XML file into Tageditor and the error message given included line and column number of the error position. After inserting the missing (true) tag before the tag using a simple text editor both the XML and the TTX file loaded without any problem.

Useless to say that tag verification in Studio 2014 did not give any error, of course, othewise this could have been solved within Studio. (Or maybe not, who knows).
Thanks for keeping us busy, SDL.

If I reimport a tmx, will the mistakes still be in the TM?

Hello, my situation is as follows:
My customer has changed his terminology rules, he wants "LEDs" changed into "LED", without the -s. However, my TM is full of the "LEDs" form. I have exported it into a tmx and with the useful Olifant tool have changed all LEDs into LED. If I now reimport this tmx, will the "LEDs" form still be in the memory? Or do I have to create a new TM each time? This could be a hassle as he has frequently requested changes recently.

I'd be grateful for a tip!

Thanks

Rob Roy

... the Studio TM instead of exporting to TMX to make the corrections? Then you don't have to worry about import/export things at all.

Even if you do, it’s no more hassle to upgrade a corrected TMX as a new TM than it it is to import it into an existing one.

You didn't mention what version of software you are actually using... so I guess if it is Trados 2007 or earlier then I can see your point.

Hello Paul,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
First of all, I use Studio 2011.
Secondly, if I use Studio to edit the TMs, is there a search and replace function? My memories are very large, and as I said I used "Olifant" because of the search and replace function - which I can't find in Studio, but perhaps it's in there somewhere! (And if not - there's a suggestion for the next version!)

Thanks

Hello Paul,

Silly me, I could have tried the shortcuts from Word etc. - anyway I have now found the S&R function, but I'm not sure about how to save the changes. The Help file says something about the ribbon, which I assume refers to 2014. How do I save the changes in 2011?

Thanks again
